Christmas Markets

over priced and over crowded these days

True....it is usually massively overpriced beer and food, and the stalls sell the sort of tat, that a lot of those who go on there would run a mile from if it was being sold on Conran St Market or suchlike. (Sort who also rave about flea markets when in Tuscany or Provence too....but don't go near any over here, lol)

But it does feel like Christmas when you see them all lit up at night especially...and for less crowded bar, the one just off Albert Sq, down Brazenose St is a good option....

you used to be able to get a decent beer at a reasonable price
you used to be able to have the kids with you

about two years ago the prices shot up, charging for the glass you drink out of! (admittedly you get the money back when you take the glass back)
last year they barred entry to my kids, laughably the first time they were 18!

Its not overpriced if you think of it. Last year we went and I ordered 2 pints and 2 gluhwein. £13 it came too. I thought they were joking until they said the mugs have a £2 redemption and the plastic pint pots a 50p redemption. So thats £5 I got back, making the round £8. £8 for 2 quality pints and 2 Gluhwein is good. I can go into a shitty bar in town and order 2 pints of watered down, overly fizzed Stella and not get much change from a tenner. Course they do it though as some people simply can't be arsed returning the pots and cups, but thats their choice if they want to miss out on money being returned to their pocket. One thing annoyed me last year, and that was scallys gathering plastic cups and essentially getting free beer. Watch out for that.

Night time is best especially with all the Christmas lights in St Anne’s Square....

That it though SF, you're getting it for £13, it just depends if you can be arsed fighting your way to the bar for your change. Most people call in for 1 drink to sample it, the people who run it know this and know that they most likely will not see their mug again. If they put a charge on that mug it matters not if they don't see it again. Likewise if they do see it again it doesn't matter as they will still be up on profit. Its good business sense but to me if you can't be bothered going back for your redemption you have too much money and little sense anyway!

Going on the 27th November with my GF and really looking forward to it. Train from Marple Bridge at 2PM and then the rest will be a blur by 6PM!
Love the atmosphere down there and although I take my 5YO daughter anywhere normally, I do think its an adult enviroment and too busy now for little ones to get much out of it.

me and the missus are in town on sat afternoon, we're going to have a look around the market then head up to The Marble Arch for some quality food and drink
