This was highlighted on BBC morning programme, where the lads father and two off his mates who he was with were interviewed. At the end of the interview the father said that prior to going on air, the police had rang him about a possible sighting in the manchester area.

he lost his fone, doubt its going to help find him, but lets hope.

Found out this evening this lad is a really good mate of my niece. Hope the kid turns up safe and sound.
