British Churches for British people....most of whom can't be arsed with the horror that is organised religion. Not sure why setting fire to mainly stone buildings is a buzz for some (other than the potential for financial gain when the apartment block goes up). I imagine it gets quite complicated if there's a graveyard within the church grounds.

Maybe folk are waking up to the fact that churches represent not enlightenment and sanctuary, but control and exploitation.

I was at the opening of the Embassy Homeless village in Manchester on Monday night, google it if you need to see what’s gone on there.

The Project Director Sid Williams is a lovely fella who has a strong belief in his religion. He along with loads of others have worked so hard to get this project off the ground (taken six years and around 7 million pounds). However it’s Sid’s dream, he’s so passionate about it and his faith. I’m not religious but I appreciate what’s driven Sid on, I can’t put him in the “horror that is organised religion” category, that’s so dismissive of his and his fellow believers (and non believers) who’ve done so much for those less fortunate than I’ve ever done in my life and I’m probably twice his age.

I agree Religion can be divisive but there’s plenty of good people out there who have a strong and peaceful faith. Let’s not tarr them all with the same brush.

I grew up right next to a big fuck off church and it was our estates football pitch, along with the factory car park.
There was a big tree that we'd hang a rope swing off and play games with knives.
The church tower has 4 clock faces and r kid left me dangling at the same height as them on a rope pulley Fred Dibnah has left up while he went for a pint..

York Minster cathedral fire was supposed to have been started by a bolt of lightning hitting the gaff.

The investigation proposed the cause to be lightning striking the south transept roof, was a result of God's retribution appointing the Right Reverand David Jenkins as the Bishop of Durham a few days before the fire. Jenkins' appointment caused some controversy regarding his comments on the New Testament of the Bible.

Lived in Radcliffe late 70s to late 80s. Handsome church that, not that old IIRC (1850s?), but a nice spot. That estate around the back always seemed a bit rum though… :)
