I agree with the sentiment, but weren't our socks originally maroon? I'm pretty sure we never used to have dark blue on the colour palette, the main colours were always a combination of sky blue, white and maroon as far as I can remember. You're a wrong'un
Navy socks = class
Name another team that plays in sky blue and white, with dark socks!
Apart from being our traditional home strip, it is unique and as soon as that kit is seen anywhere in the world should be instantly recognised as Manchester City
It does amaze me how supporters of teams such as Bayern Munich tolerate the annual change of home kit colour
Umm...I'm not sure about that. I could be wrong, but way back in the day, before we played on sky blue I believe our original colours were maroon shirts with narrow blue stripes. Some will point out that maroon as only been on our kit a couple of times thoughout our history, but when we've had it on, it's always seemed a lucky omen , last season prime example, and personally for me it's the colours of City , ie Sky blue, white and maroon, just like the classic bar scarfs.
Don't start that, a very similar comment led to a massive row about shirt quality on a former forum and split it in two. That red and black striped one doesn't half attract bits of fluff.
I’m certain that for the first 70 years or so dark socks were our first choice, although we may have had sky and white hooped for just a few of those yearsI agree with the sentiment, but weren't our socks originally maroon? You're not on your own. I still have the shirt, albeit the short sleeve version but I thought it had the logo on the sleeves too. Had to go and dig it out to check. I'd forgotten I still had it. Still fits too - sort of....Bloody hell, my memory.... :D
I know the home and the dark blue/maroon/white kit (loved that one) did.
Didn't we have the white socks back in the 70's on the away kit? Only reason I mention it is our school kit was the black/red shirt, black shorts and white socks with black and red hoops around the top. My understanding was that City had donated the kit to the school. That was early 70's, 73-75ish.I’m certain that for the first 70 years or so dark socks were our first choice, although we may have had sky and white hooped for just a few of those years
The maroon turn over was introduced late 1960’s, after which we alternated between dark blue and sky blue, and then in the 90’s introduced those girly white socks
This is the very shirt that led me to this thread today - because I've just got back from the local park in Blackpool where there was some kid wearing this exact shirt. I knew it wasn't one I'd seen before, but didn't get near enough to him to ask what it was or where he got it from.Chinese new year shirt
We may have had to play in white socks occasionally if there was a colour clashDidn't we have the white socks back in the 70's on the away kit? We did have a very similar one before that, it was a Le Coq one so must have been early 2000s. Sash was going the opposite way though, top right to bottom left.I absolutely love that shirt but they always for stupid money on eBay. I’ve never understood why a retro version of that hasn’t been made like all the other classic ones.
