We aren’t descended from anyone. Manchester City Football Club were a new club formed on 16th April 1894. Despite some people being involved in St Marks, Gorton and Ardwick, in the formation of City, City do not have a forerunner. Ardwick were still a club after that City formation date and even played two games after we’d formed.
The timeline goes:
St Marks … founding date unknown-1884
Gorton … 1884-1887
Ardwick … 1887-1894
…that line ended when Ardwick folded
St Mark’s are said to have worn black and red halves (but there has never been a team photo of St Marks found and I think there’s only one mention of their kit anywhere and no other mentions of their kit colours), there is no record of a badge for that club.
This is Gorton AFC (not St Marks):

‘On 18th April 1894 Ardwick lost 2-0 to Sheffield United at Hyde Road before a poor attendance of 200 spectators in a match held “to help the Ardwick Committee meet some of their heavy financial liabilities.” Ardwick’s last match was a scoreless draw away against Stockport County on 28th April 1894’.
