City’s wasted talent

I think if we hadn't had the success we have had over the last decade we would still be talking about Michael Johnson in a similar way to Paul Lake. Obviously different circumstances but genuine world class potential that wasn't fulfilled.

You're probably right in all fairness, but I thought he could've done more at Chelsea. It was absolutely the wrong move for him and maybe if he'd have gone to Arsenal or United (I know, wasn't going to happen) his career might have been a bit different. He's not really got a lot to show for his talent and when he came back, it did feel like we'd not bought what we thought we had if you get me! :)

Yeah another club might have worked out better. The Chelsea model back then was ridiculous. We get so much stick for what we do in terms of transfers, but whoever had a good season at another English club always ended up being their no 1 priority plus they'd then add big names from abroad as well. SWP was their choice in summer 2005. Before that Scott Parker had been brilliant so they added him. Johnson, Bridge, Ashley Cole, Joe Cole, Frank Lampard, Duff, Sidwell.

But I think you'd be surprised by how many games Shauny played for Chelsea. Managed 65 starts and 60 sub appearances but only 10 goals. He just wasn't cut out for that level.

He hit 10 in the league for us in his best season and we finished 8th that season (his last season with us in his first spell). He was a fan favourite but I don't think he wasted his talent, I think he was perfect for a team around mid table but not much better.

He gave us some amazing memories back in those mediocre times.

We let a lot of players go in the late 80’s/early 90’s for not a lot of money in many cases, who went on to have pretty decent careers and would have surely stopped the decline. Few that spring to mind,

Michael Hughes
Hinchcliffe
Hendry
Warhurst
Neil Lennon
Lomas
Flitcroft
Earl Barratt
Michael brown
Paul simpson

Another post I dont understand. Colin Hendry was absolutely great for us. Where is the waste?
Well he was Player of the Year the previous season for us and we sold him and he promptly went on to become one of the best centre backs in the league. So from City’s point of view it was a huge waste!!

Steve Daley - brilliant at Wolves, flop for City. Same with Badbuy, couldn't stop scoring for Pompey, couldn't start scoring for City.

In more recent times Adarabioyo looked destined for great things, but seemed to peak and fade.
