City accounts on bluesky

I loved old Twitter. Haven’t signed up yet but will be giving Bluesky a go, if it keeps its algorithms similar to old Twitter then it’ll be a success.

Given how it’s been set up, I can’t see it going down a similar route to X in the future either.

I don't generally go for walls of texts but I think it maybe warranted in this case.. you've been WARNED.. read at your own risk:




The current algorithm in X/ Twitter has helped the bad actors gain a major foothold into our lives by reverberating the Kremlin’s point of view as mainstream acceptable. Then you have all these bots going around mimicking and echoing their prefered narrative and that distorts what we think of as a society. Think of yourself as a class in high school and 65% of you agreed to do something because it made sense to you but all of a sudden an algorithm on your phone is telling you your viewpoint isn’t just stupid.. it’s unpatriotic! That’s the reason I refuse to post/ engage on X/ Twitter anymore and I was a very happy user for more than a decade. I loved the platform due to simplicity but today it’s not the same anymore as it’s run in a very irresponsible way basically having the Kremlin school teachers police your every thought.

I just don’t want to provide content and legitimacy to that by posting there. If you think you can be the voice of reason.. think about it.. you know the algorithm is biased against you.. and can you really compete with a brute force algorithm that is programmed to respond to 50 million people faster than you can even grab your cup of coffee to ponder your next move. Even the Pentagon with all it’s military budget can’t combat the misinformation put out by the Kremlin.

I’m not saying blue sky is perfect but I choose to not act like a brainwashed person and an agent of the Kremlin. Instead I’m proud of who I am.. who may parents worked hard to send to school, who one day on vacation was watching some highlights and fell in love with David Silva and in turn Manchester City. I am not going to surrender the view that City are innocent of these 115 charges just because a majority of X/ twitter fans say that’s the narrative.

But I want to converse with normal City fans.. not argue against bots. Threads is good. Mastodon is good. I personally like Blue Sky but I know for sure.. I’m done with X/ Twitter and it’s endless kremlin feed boosting the right wing echo chamber.

I have a general dislike of social media like X, Facebook etc. I do use FB but really only for particular groups such as car owner clubs. You’re absolutely right that the algorithms are toxic, I don’t have any confidence that BlueSky (BS for short?) won’t end up going the same way if it gets popular bit appreciate that whilst it’s not, people like you, will be happy using it.

If I want to talk to blues I use Bluemoon - it’s a personal preference and I get that - what I do find somewhat disturbing here is how people get hounded for daring to hold a different view and how they can get thread or forum banned for airing it in a robust but respectful way. People should be thread banned for threatening behaviour but not for holding a different point of view. Some of the mods seem to hold personal grudges which isn’t healthy.
 
I am on Bluesky now, Twitter is fast becoming the new Myspace, millions of decent accounts are migrating to Bluesky, you are not bombarded with ads, there are no bots, all together its a much better experience, sure there are a few quirks that need ironing out, but it's got the look and feel of the old twitter

Soon or later though it's going to have to make some money just to pay the bills, how they do it will be interesting

Should charge - 20 quid for the year, would get rid of the vast majority of bots and trolls.

or indeed a platform free of political ideologies full stop would be nice. i assume though that you're referring to the owner rather than the users.

i'm a mixture of capitalist and social views as i think many are. not sure i agree about your dating statement. my missus is a labour voting united fan and i'm a tory voting city fan. different politics, different religions, different skin colour, different music tastes. but love trumps all of that. and conflicting opinion removes blinkers in my experience.

i've decided to give bluesky a go for the sole reason that the ai generated ads on x annoy me. if bluesky solves that, at least for a few years, then we're golden.

what i would really like is a platform where we can be held accountable for our posts. someone posts something very bad then the person can be identified. no one should be able to post something that they wouldn't be prepared to say in real life. at least that's my dream.

They won't leave X unless they want to dump their followers. X can be a vile place but it's still the most popular platform in the world with 600 million plus users. Bluesky is a joke!

Plenty are doing so, you say 600 million where did that figuare come from? Regardless it's become a cesspit of fake accounts and vile propaganda, many accounts are not real accounts some of the botnets can have 1000s of fake accounts even Space Karen was wary about the user numbers when he got pissed up and put an offer in and Dorsy forced him to go through with the deal, he tried to get out of it (most people getting pissed up and buy crap on Amazon)

And in the long run its all about the quality of the posts rather than the amount, I would would rather read a detailed analyses of a situation even from different perspectives than read what some knuckle dragging racists spew over on Twitter and it seems that major advertisers feel the same way it's not good brand association
