City and YouTube "join forces"

This is brilliant!

Will this enable me to put my City videos on the website without PL taking them off?

in short, no

This is where Football is going for me..... The Rights-holders to broadcast live matches will be companies like Youtube in the future.

Imagine the Villa game is broadcast on youtube, and as it's a Home game city get a shedload of advertising revenue, with the away team getting a smaller percentage.

Paying for streams with the cash going to your club, rather than LOF

With Richard Ayers and Endemol on our side, we're well looked after. Ayers is everywhere at the minute. The tweeters among us who follow him will know he's up for awards every other week and rarely a day goes by when someone isnt writing an article about him. I think he's a genius. Or a shameless self promoter! I'm undecided. @RichardAyers for those who care. Often responds.

Maybe in 50 years time, but in the short term I have to disagree. The internet is far too international. Even region locking can be got round with a simple proxy. Broadcasting will stay TV-based for the foreseeable future IMO because it's very easy that way to sell the rights over and over and over to different countries where their local TV stations are country-locked. No way is YouTube or a similar website ever going to offer a greater sum than selling individual rights to all 200-and-something independent countries individually. As far as the PL is concerned, the more areas which have to buy the rights, the better.

Agree completely with that.

Wonder if this will help me and others get our youtube accounts back after posting friom recent away matches. Interesting that when I approached City's Media department to se if they could help me they said they'd always had trouble contacting YouTube themselves so sorry but they couldn't help. That was only a few weeks ago and they must have had this deal being prepared then. Not blaming the club, might have been different personnel involved but I just wish they could have helped. They are actively encouraging people to post stuff on youtube but if you notice several of those items have been removed due to FA copyright and as a consequence people are losing their accounts.

Interesting that you say this happened to you a few weeks ago. So it was clearly brought to the club's attention then that people's Youtube accounts were being closed down for containing brief glimpses of match action?

Unfortunately for me that didn't stop City putting one of my videos on MCFC.co.uk last Wednesday of Savic scoring at Blackburn and everyone celebrating/doing the Poznan afterwards. The link is still active on the website although my video no longer plays:

http://mcfc.co.uk/News/Club-news/2011/October/City-on-Youtube-051011

As a result Youtube closed down my account. I emailed a complaint to the club and got this back:

I'm very sorry that YouTube have taken this action following what is supposed to be a light-hearted piece showcasing our fantastic supporters and their love for the club.

It would appear that these videos contained match action albeit in the most briefest sense and therefore breached FAPL copyright and unfortunately for yourself, them being placed on the club website meant that they were opened up to a much larger audience.

Going forward, our YouTube round-up will have to concentrate on fans not at the stadium for fear of other fans' channels suffering the same fate that your account has.

I'm sure that under a different email address etc you will be able to set up another YouTube account as I would certainly not recommend appealing the removal of your videos.

Again my most sincerest apologies for this unfortunate outcome.

I feel a bit let down to be honest and this announcement that we're now joining forces rubs salt in.

It happened to me in the week after the Spurs game. I started a thread on here about it during that week. I wrote to Chris Nield at City who gave me a polite response back but said they couldn't help. I also wrote to the FA and was surprised to get a response from somebody at an organisation called NetResult. It seems they are the 3rd party who act on behalf of UEFA and the FA to combat copyright infringement including sites providing live streams etc.

I exchanged several emails with this guy at NetResult and in the end he said they would be willing to retract the copyright claim as long as I removed the videos. Of course I agreed but never heard from him again and didn't get my accounts back. All along it seemed like I was small fry to him. All his replies were 2 or 3 days after I had written. I'm guessing he couldn't be bothered in dealing with my last one.

You could try going the same route as I did and see if you have more success. PM me if you want the details.

One thing he did say was they were going to approach City about posting fans videos on the OS but it doesn't seem like City have taken notice. I suppose they could have warned fans to keep content to certain types of stuff.

Forgot to say I also wrote to YouTube but as people on here had warned, never heard anything in response to my multiple approaches to them.

Just a thought on this - and at my age I may be getting confused!!!

Given the thread about the Liverpool/TV rights announcement - is there not a big link here?????

What I mean is that the media outlet of the past/present has been TV and all rights have been negotiated as TV deals etc

But will the media outlet(s) of the present/future not be TV and Online??

Would this strategy of CITY's not be something that would put us at the forefront of such technology and woould not the Sheik's wealth and previous investment strategies position him(his companies) well to be the leader in such distribution? - and taking it further would not other CITY links with US based media outlets have an impact for the future ????

Just has the feel of several major strategic initiatives beginning to converge - or I might just need an early drink!!

Yet more innovation from City. It's great to see we are leaving no stone unturned in our bid to reach the top of the pile.

Damned right. We are moving at a rapid pace too
