City at forefront of trying to end even split of £3bn foreign TV rights.

So when I can't make it to a few night games when I'm working away I get my ticket taken off me

Fucking hell lad, don't give up the day job.

The main issue for me is the blocks of tickets they allocate to the Academy or corportate, especially on Level 1

Really affects the atmosphere if there a blocks of seats not taken up, generates apathy from the rest of the crowd
Then give it to a mate or put it on the exchange, if the ticket is cheap enough they'll go and if you run the risk of a strike people will actually make the effort to fill the seat. I know people that have a season ticket and have no intention of going just to keep it going, what's the fucking point?

My season tickets £380 i've had it for 10 years, i'll probably have it another 20

A derby ticket is £60

I miss a few games through work, but some people think taking season tickets off paying customers is a good idea

To me the issue is the empty seats on the first tier near the North Stand and they're mostly comps

Elsewhere there are seemingly blocks allocated to corporate/third parties that are always empty bar big games
I repeat, if you can't make the game due to work then why not let someone else have your seat for the game, surely that's better then having the seat empty for the game?

Those American sports don't have promotion/relegation which is a huge difference. I don't think their model is at all relevant to football in Europe. In terms of how we look after ourselves as a club, it seems logical to take a step like this. I want us to be as financially powerful as possible.

In terms of this restricting the competitiveness of the league, I just don't agree with that. We're already at a stage where the top 6 can more or less buy whoever they want. This won't change that. But equally, it's not gonna change who the rest of the league can buy either because the reality is that the disparity between the money in the PL and the rest of the world is fucking enormous. Clubs like Leicester or Stoke can go and ride roughshod over pretty much 90% of the teams in the top divisions in Europe when it comes to buying players. That will remain the case even if their % of the o/s income is reduced.
And the American model still doesn't guarantee any sort of competitive balance. Look at the NBA this season. Won, at a total canter by a super team. Meanwhile at the other end of the spectrum, teams start trying to intentionally throw games towards the end of the season to try and increase their draft spot. It's made the sport borderline unwatchable

It's not as if they're fucking hot property either is it, there's always shit loads of spares knocking about for £20.

Because it's touch and go whether i'll make the game or miss it sometimes if there's a chance of me making it i'll always keep hold of it incase rather than take £20 for it

Or if I know I 100% will be at the next game the pain in the arse of fucking about dropping the ticket off and then making sure I get it back before the next game (missing kick off standing outside the ground) i'd rather take a hit on the £20

We struggle to fill the ground as it is, without alienating people who've had ST's for years

If City took my ST off me that's sat with my mates for missing a few games i'd jack in supporting them, thankfully they're a bit more responsible than that

If they were cheaper then the demand would be higher so they would be hotter property than what they currently are, I'm not trying to alienate or target the people who've had ST for years because a lot of them would be hard core Blues that will go regardless, it's the ones that take the piss and have a ST with no intention of going that need weaning out, but this can only be done with cheaper tickets and a higher demand otherwise we'll always have a half empty ground for the so called lesser games.
If you're only potentially going to miss 3 or 4 games through work then you'll have nothing to worry about, hence the reason for the buffer, if you're only going to attend half the games in a season and have a ST I'm in the mind of what's the point, why not just pick and choose the games you can attend?

Bayern have a similar system in place, I do admit that I'm probably on the tight side by saying 3 or 4 as their system is 8 games but the principle is the same (article in the link below)

Obviously the pricing has to be right for the demand but it's a thought?

I'd also be interested to hear your thoughts on how to combat the problem?

If they sold match day tickets at a decent price and organised the ticket exchange properly there would be no empty seats

To me I don't think there is a problem with ST holders not turning up, not that's hugely visible.

The issue to me is large blocks of tickets allocated to the Academy/Schools or corporate that just don't get filled. Stick them in the third tier.

But for arguements sake:

My tickets roughly £20 a game, if they charged me £20-£30 on top every time my ticket wasn't used, i'd make a lot more effort to make sure the seat was filled for any games I couldn't make. I presume everyone else would.

If they took my ST off me, i'd make a point of never stepping foot in the ground again so they've lost a long term customer

If I understand the regulations correctly you may not give or sell your ticket to anyone (except through the Club). So if you do, you run a risk of getting banned or possibly even prosecuted.

Some STs are so cheap that it's feasible for people to buy them and only attend the "big" games. On the other hand, one-off match tickets for league games are extortionate. I don't wonder that there's empty seats. It's impressive that so many are full given that not-so-many years ago a capacity crowd was around 30,000.
