Is the love for cancelo based on his performances for us or his country/previous clubs?

I’ve never been impressed by him when playing for us (he seems neither strong defensively or that creative in attacking sense) but hadn’t seen him before.

pep certainly doesn’t play him very often and makes you wonder why the money wasn’t invested elsewhere

He was a completely different player since the restart. Showed his real quality.

You can have the best 4 defenders in the world in the backline but if the midfield offer them zero protection then they are going to get done regularly.

We need a defensive midfield destroyer to sit in front of the back four, ideally someone like Nigel De Jong, someome who can also play a bit.

The back four that was on the pitch at the end has great potential, could well be outstanding with time on the pitch together.

Just the midfield that needs sorting out, Foden is not the answer to replace David Silva at this time.
