City Bogey Team(s)

Up to the takeover it would be easier to say the teams that were the opposite, Villa, West Ham, Norwich were often games where we would win.

Liverpool at Anfield
19 wins in 112 games there. 10 of those were before 1938, 16 before 1957, only 3 wins in our last 59 visits there and one of those was behind closed doors, no wins there in front of fans in the takeover era.

Proper fucking shit. We have a mental problem about that stadium as a culture living through the club that has lived on through cycle after cycle of teams. It’s pathetic to be honest.

Boro
In the 80s they forgot to bring their kit to Maine Road so had to go to Old Trafford and borrow United’s and play against us in that and I think it all started there.
Early 90s they knocked us out of both cup competitions in the same week with Paul Lake getting seriously injured.
Danny Tiatto scored a wonder goal against them with a dribble from our half and it was disallowed for nowt.
In one game we had something like 20 shots, 12 on target, hit the bar once, the post twice, had two cleared off the line, mullered them all game...they had no shots at all...Sun Jihai scored an own goal late on and they won 0-1.
The last game of the season when we had a penalty against them in the final seconds to get into the UEFA Cup and Fowler had it saved so Boro finished above us and got into the UEFA Cup instead and got all the way to the final the year after.
The 8-1 in Sven’s last game.
We were top of the Prem under Pellegrini and they were in the Championship, we had them at home in the Cup and they beat us 0-2.
Completely bossed a game against them and were 1-0 up and they equalised out of nowhere in the 92nd minute a few years ago.

Our record against them in my lifetime is:
P38 W11 D9 L18

Wigan
We’ve played Wigan in a cup game 8 times and won just three.

They’ve embarrassed us from divisions below more than anyone (and I’d hazard a guess more than any lower division club has any top division club in English football history):
They took us to a replay in the League Cup in 1982 when they were in the third tier.
They knocked us out of the League Cup in 2002 when they were in the third tier.
They beat us in the FA Cup final when they got relegated in 2013.
They knocked us out of the FA Cup in 2014 when they were in the second tier.
They knocked us out of the FA Cup in 2018 as a third tier club yet again.

Derby County away deserves a mention. I went to see us at the old Baseball Ground 6 times and witnessed 1 draw and 5 stuffings. I believe our last league win at Derby was in 1969.
It was always a 'lively' day out at the Baseball, and for younger forumers, the pitch was like a ploughed field.

Reverse bog I'd have to go for Norwich, they went years without beating us, and we'd often smash them to bits, regularly beating them by 5 or 6.

Wasn't Wigan in the LC in 82 over 2 legs or was it a draw and a replay?
