City bus scheme for home games - bus tracking (P91)

Thanks for getting in touch about public transport provision to the Co-Op Live Arena which is due to open this April.

I'm aware of the challenges related to the venue's location and capacity and I would like to assure you that Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) has been working closely with the Co-op Live Arena on plans around transport to and from the venue.

All parties are working together to limit the impact to the overall transport network. Detailed travel information will be published ahead of the venue opening with a particular focus on public transport services to and from the arena. In support of this, additional capacity has already been introduced on the tram network, with services now operating every six minutes between the city centre and Etihad Campus and additional strengthening planned during events.

I've spoken to TfGM about your suggestion of restoring rail services on the Phillips Park line to help people get to and from the area, and they've advised this isn't an option that's being considered. This is largely due to the fact that it would be difficult to justify the business case and cost involved for such a project purely from an events perspective. There is also nowhere for trains to go at either end of the line and capacity issues across central Manchester on existing infrastructure. The focus will, instead, be on enhancing other public transport, including dedicated bus services. More details will be announced by TfGM and the arena in the coming weeks.

I trust the above proves useful and thanks for taking the time to get in touch and share your feedback.

1 set of points , in theory , is all that's needed for trains to get from piccadilly along the line right next to the etihad and that could be a circular service through Vic round the ordsall chord through picadilly and also in the opposite direction. Also obviously , a new station would need to built somewhere near the etihad.
Im pretty sure 1 train each way doing a circular route wouldn't cause that much disruption for a couple of hours.
Or even a shuttle from Victoria to either park or a new station on the freight line next to the etihad wouldn't be to complicated to arrange.

The new bus service goes literally right passed my house but doesn't stop . Nearest stop is a bout 2 miles away . Great for people who live near the stop ....but not for most people.

Almost every train I've travelled on via Oxford Road Station has had to wait patiently outside Deansgate Station until trains coming from Liverpool/N Wales have gone through. The Ordsall Chord is almost never used because of this. Oxford Road Station has only one line through to Platform 14 at Piccadilly. A line that also travels to the Airport.

Yeah, a ‘quick’ circular trip from the ground via Victoria and back through Piccadilly would probably take best part of an hour. That’s if they had a station. And the trains. And the staff.

They can’t run half the trains they advertise on Sundays at the moment as it is. It’s been diabolical since Christmas on Sundays, travelling locally. Don’t know what’s changed since before Christmas to make it so bad but it’s definitely got worse.

From the TfGM Website:

Please note, post-match timings are indicative and a common sense approach will be taken to ensure fans have enough time to travel back to the buses after the final whistle. For example, if a significant amount of added time is played we will delay the departure of the buses to account for this.

Hoping to give this a go today. The Blackley stop on the 15 route is only a few mins walk from my house.

My luck will be that it's full at Middleton before it sets off and won't stop.
