City bus scheme for home games - bus tracking (P91)

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to introduce myself – I’m working at TfGM on the bus scheme and thought it worthwhile to update you on a few things ahead of the Brentford game.

  • After feedback we have extended bus route 5 to now include Timperley.
  • To avoid a low bridge, the Longsight stop has now changed to Stockport Road/Plymouth Grove on bus route 4.
  • We are aware of delays to some services on the previous matchday, including bus 5. We will be monitoring journey times for the coming fixtures to determine if a route change is required or whether the delays were a result of the large number of events which took place on Saturday 24 August.
  • There were some slight issues with some pick up points for the Ipswich game, such as from Bury Interchange. We have worked with the operators since to ensure that all these issues should now be ironed out.
  • Looking ahead, we are investigating several digital solutions to support the scheme, such as online ticketing to ensure we don’t have capacity issues and whether we can have live locations displayed for the services. We’ll update on the progress of this in due course.
Thanks for everyone’s feedback on here and by email to the matchdaybus@tfgm.com account.

It’s great that everyone has been using it and been so positive about the scheme. We really want this to be a success and for it to grow over this and future seasons.

Please continue to send through any comments by email and I’ll drop by to let you know of any changes or developments we have with the scheme.

Thanks for the info biggest gripe is when the bus is delayed there seems no way to no if/when it could turn up will this go on a live tracking update like other buses in the bee network app, it can get twitchy towards kick off time

Hi everyone,
Just wanted to provide a quick update following the last two match days.

We’ve been contacted by a few people (possibly from here) about MC5 and the delays to the service. While last night’s delay was due to the operator, we are looking at re-routing the service to mitigate the continued issues. We’re currently sorting this with the operator and will update on this in due course – likely after the Watford game.

Live tracking is something which I know has been requested. As I mentioned previously, this is something that we hope to integrate into the Bee Network App. In the meantime, we have created an interim solution which should allow buses to tracked on a matchday. This is dependent upon the operators setting up everything up correctly on their end, so apologies in advance if you check and your service doesn’t happen to be showing.

The tracking will be available at: https://tfgm.shinyapps.io/MCLiveV2/

I caught the Number 2 Marple bus for the return journey only on Wednesday. There were lots of empty seats upstairs.

Brilliant that you’re engaging on the forum. Top class.

Looks cool - so are you saying that the intent is to have that map update with a DOT for every bus thats out on the road (or planned to be on the road) on Match Day before the game (and after?) much line the new Bee Network App?

Hiya, yes on matchday, you will see a bubble with the service number moving along the route. The routes are the thick black lines, blue dots the stops. Technology being as it is, we may not always get a feed from all 15 buses. You can always tweet @BeeNetwork on the day for updates.

I used one for the first time on Wednesday. About 16 in total caught the #12 Ramsbottom bus, half of whom seemed to be concessionary pass holders. Also about half got on at Radcliffe and none at Harpurhey. £64 to £128 income isn't great.

It's not bad for the return journey, time-wise, but I thought the wait in Harpurhey on the inward journey for an extra 5 minutes was a bit of a waste seeing as I was gagging for a pint!

The new Tyldesley service (started at Boothstown last season) is very well used. More or less full so far for league games.
