City clubcall?

I do remember a 4-3 at Swindon. Never realised it was the game before the 10-1 though. Think the one I’m thinking of Jason Beckford scored though, so not sure if that was a different year.
Following season we won at Swindon (as we always seemed to) 2:1, the game was on New Years Eve, I think Beckford may have scored that day.

There was a bit of a crossover actually. There was a page on Ceefax, can't remember the number, I'm sure some other blues will, that gave you the ClubCall headlines. It was the pre-internet version of the Transfer Forum I suppose! It would give you a headline next to your clubs name with transfer speculation. I always used to check that out, but never phoned up because I'd have been thrown out of the house!

The closest I came to ringing was when we were linked with David Platt. He was England captain at the time and playing for Juventus. There was rumours at the time that he was a boyhood City fan, but that, and seemingly the speculation, turned out to be bollocks!
Ceefax page 302. Itv teletext page 401.

Remember all the shite teletext headlines like… euro star jets in!! Example2. 108 goal hitman signs!!! Example 3. U21 maestro in talks!!

I used to spend so much time refreshing teletext for exciting City breaking news. For so long we belonged in 312 news in brief though

Aside from Fa cup i think...lost 2:0 (i think it was 2) in the pissing rain..

Anyone remember the update symbol that used to be on the old pye tv's. If you were watching a TV programme and you had the ceefax football score page on, the update symbol would appear on the right hand side of the TV when a goal was scored. Happy days

The simple solution to keep all our fans happy is to change the word drugs to Vimpto.

1894, I will be listening on Tuesday don't let me down.

Or about 7 minutes after the goal had been scored by the time the page updated enough to let you know what had actually happened.
I remember sitting with Piccadilly 261 on, a variety of hosts, of whom the magnificent James H was by far the best… used to do my head in when the music went quiet in the middle of a song, waiting to hear if it was an “it’s a goal” or an “Oh no!”… that and the fact that when it was an “it’s a goal” it always seemed to be John Thomas scoring for one of the clubs from the outskirts. Cue James H… “John Thomas has slipped on in”… “John Thomas has stuck it in”…

6-2, the Tuesday after the 10-1?

There can’t be many football fans who’ve seen 19 goals over two consecutive games in just three days?
There can't be many that went to every home game APART FROM THOSE two in a season, - the 10-1 and 6-2. But there was at least one. And that, was bloody me

Ha Ha, I feel your pain, I didnt miss a game at home for about 4 years, then my mum somehow convinced me to miss the Huddersfield game because my brother was visiting home for a few days while living abroad, funny thing is my brothers a big blue & we both wanted to go, I didnt miss another home game after that for another 4 years!

So like me you would have been there 3 months later at the home 0-0 FA Cup game v the same team Huddersfield (and prob even the 3-0 away replay) constantly thinking why the f++k did I choose to miss that one bloody match

Welcome to Manchester City club call..bringing you the latest news..of the club! Everything was elongated to prolong the call. It's clubcalls fault that my dad one day brought a bleeding payphone and plonked it next to the tele and said 'Meet your new phone you little bastards!'.

I know a guy who missed only ONE home game in the whole of the 1980s. Lot longer than that actually. It was the 5-1. Best thing was, he didn’t even have a reason. Just said he didn’t fancy it.

I must admit to a moment of shame in December 1989. I visited my sister in West Ruislip on a day when City were playing away at Southampton. I sneakily rang Clubcall on her phone. I then went out for the afternoon. When I came back in the evening I realised I hadn't hung up properly. She has never mentioned it. I have chosen not to bring it up.

I've just found this in an old book, I'd been using it as a bookmark.
'96/'97 fixtures on the other side.

In 1987 I listened to a full members cup match Vs Plymouth on clubcall from a pay phone inside a pub in Surrey. I popped 10 pence in and I got the full 90 minutes for some strange reason. Now that was value for money for a city fan working away. The only downside was Brian Clarkes commentary.

I was at that game. We played Ipswich away on the Saturday and drew 0-0, Bill Williams’s only game for us, we signed him from Stockport and he was hauled off at half time coz he was terrible! On the Friday we got hit by that hurricane that Michael Fish failed to mention so no one was prepared for it! It took us seven hours to get there, we had to keep getting out of the van and moving trees off the roads! Then on the Tuesday I went on Helen the bells coach and the Plymouth full members cup game was cancelled when we were at Taunton in Somerset. Back we came and undeterred went again the next day. I think we won 6-2, Paul Moulden scored 4 if I remember rightly. Then on the Saturday a league trip back to Plymouth! I covered some miles that week for the cause!
