Man City creates 'fan map' with Music and Jono Brain
Digital / UK
Man City has worked with Manchester design agency Music and digital freelancer Jono Brain to create a 'fan map' online.

City fans around the world will be encouraged to sign up to the 'Be part of it' website - they need only provide their name and a few other details including favourite player - and drop a pin on the map showing their location.

The aim of the site and its map is to "bring together the global community of City fans" and allow them to find each other and engage with the club.

At the moment the site, built in Manchester, allows fans all over the world to locate City supporters in their neighbourhoods.

In time the map will be updated and could potentially allow fans to car pool to matches or find good pubs.

Music's Matt Beardsell said the hope was to create a useful tool for the fans.

He told The Drum: "Now, fans around the globe can be part of the City community; whether they show their support from Ardwick or Alice Springs, Moston or Montreal, the aim is to bring together the global community of City fans to be a part of the club.

"The fan map is there for fans to use as they will. Periodic updates and additions are planned throughout the year to enrich the content of the map - whether it aids in car pooling to the games, highlighting away pubs, or simply finding other Blues in the neighbourhood."

Beardsell added that the site will be promoted through the fans' own involvement.

He said: "Utilising Facebook and Twitter, when a fan registers their support on the map, a Tweet or Facebook message is generated that links to the site, effectively promoting the site through digital word of mouth through the networks of registered supporters."

City supporters like to claim that they outnumber United followers in Manchester. This new site, detailing where the Blues' fans are based, might help them make a convincing case to their red rivals about the strength of their support.

212 now, won't let me picture on though too manyy mega pickies. Anybody know if its possible to reduce the mega pickies

I see the Rags have already hijacked it. if you look at the home screen long enough at the changing pictures there is a few 34 years jibes starting to show up . . . . . bless em

I'm on it!!

havent got a season card anymore so just put Colin Bell stand (where i used to have it)

Is it me or can you only register if you fill in the "where do you sit at the games" box? I know this idea will probably be popular with some but does it not kind of discourage people like myself who live away from Manchester and thus can't attend the games from registering? - and thus defeating the point of having the map show more than Greater Manchester...

I guess I could just pot-luck pick a stand to register...

Good idea to have the 24 hour delay imho, otherwise ragcafe and the like could game it and fill it full of 'berties from stockport'
