City Fans Leaving Early/Empty seats

What is it that annoys people about people leaving early ? Genuine Question
Is it they think the team won't think we like them ? They know it happens at every single club so I don't think they are daft enough to think that

Is it having to stand up for 2 seconds while someone goes past ?

Is it cos they think some rag mates might take a picture 5 minutes from time and make a joke about empty seats ?

Like I say it happens at every single club and I find people moaning about it very bizarre

It reflects badly on our support, and therefore our club, when the ground is nearly empty at the final whistle. We are worse than most clubs for this.

Bizarre is going to a live event and not staying to the end.
Bizarre is not staying to cheer off the team you 'support'.

Pay for your seat, arrive late, go the bar 5 minutes before half time, get back to your seat 5 minutes after the second half has started, leave early. That's bizarre. May as well stay at home and save yourself some money.

It does not happen at every single club, not on the scale it occurs regularly at the Etihad and considering we are one of the top clubs in England if not Europe I have yet to see it happen at one of our rival clubs.
There is a problem and I'm sure the club are not burying their head in the sand as you are.

So your definition of an early leaver is.
Arrives 5 mins late.
Goes to the bar before HT
Comes back late.
Then leaves before the end.

I always get in for kick off.
Never go to the bar, wouldn't drink or pay for that piss.
Very occasionally leave early because of transport problems to get home.

And will continue to please myself regardless of what anyone else thinks.

I remember people doing this at Maine Road, it's nothing new.

Perhaps it's part of City's culture. Thing is, people can go whenever they like, there's nothing to stop them, and how could there be? Personally, I've always stayed to the end except on very rare occasions, but so what? You may not be able to understand people leaving early, but then I can't understand people doing all sorts of stuff, from drinking lager to watching The Only Way is Essex. You can't dictate to others, unless you're literally the Government, and even then your power has its limitations.

I was exaggerating, obviously.

Of course you can please yourself what you do; you paid you're money you can come and go when you please.

Just don't kid yourself that you're enhancing the reputation of the club.

Where do you get your figures on the scale of how many leave early at each club ?
We have the 4th highest average attendance in the country so I'm not burying my head in the sand I just feel there isn't a problem with our support

Sorry still don't get it, can you explain what you mean by reflects badly on the club or enhancing the reputation ? What difference will it make to the club or how the club is viewed if all fans stayed till the end ?

Pretending we don't have a problem is not the answer.

The best gloss you can put on it is that all English fans are shit so it's alright for us to be shit too.

I'd like us to raise the bar and be a bit more 'Dortmund' than 'Arsenal'. I think many posters on here want that too.

The club have given us a dedicated singing section and we have the 1894 group who are trying to make a difference. Work still to do but at least we're trying.

When we're televised and with 5 minutes to go there are thousands of empty seats it makes us look half hearted.
When the players have shaken hands with their opponents and the officials and gather in the centre circle to salute the crowd and there's hardly any body still there, it's pathetic.
I'm not advocating a 'Dortmund' style 20 minute serenade of the players at the end, just a modicum of enthusiasm.

Why do people just go through the motions? Turn up, get behind the team and applaud the players off (no matter how they played).

I think there's a general apathy towards football in this country. We've had the piss taken out of us for years now with ticket prices, silly kick-off times etc. We've lost a bit of the essence of what supporting should be. Watch a Budesliga game if you want to see what it's about. I watched Frankfurt V Bremen on TV and it was deafening at times.
