City & FFP | 2020/21 Accounts released | Revenues of £569.8m, £2.4m profit (p 2395)

Related party sponsorships are perfectly legal under FFP. They're just subject to a fair value test
m expecting United to
That's my understanding about the hotel and the sponsorship. I originally thought Mandarin Group owned it but it's clear that they operate the hotel on behalf of the owners.

What we don't really know is the exact commercial/legal relationship between EPCO, the Abu Dhabi company that appears to own the hotel. Are they just the owners of the building, receiving rental or lease income? Or are they part of a joint venture, sharing management and profits?

At the end of the day, assuming it's >£1m the PL will need to decide if it's (a) an associated party and (b) if so (which isn't a given by any means) whether it's fair value.

Even if they decide that it's associated but fair value, I doubt the usual cretins down the M62, Stretford or North London, will accept it.
In response united about to be sponsored by travel lodge

And I'd rather you weren't in charge of our finances. Fortunately your not
It’s not about finances, it’s about giving our enemies a stick to beat us with, just like the empty seats in the family stand because some families hardly show up when other fans can’t actually get tickets.

Well, that's up to you mate, but I'm not willing to dictate (or accept others outwith the club dictating) who we can do business with

Exactly :)

100% testing the new PL rules IMO and the PL will certainly be tested! Brilliant.

City abstained when voting took place on the proposed new rules because advice from our lawyers was that the rules would be unenforceable because they fell foul of competition law. The club don't seem to feel the need to test them! The ball is in the PL's/cartel's hands.

Didn't we abstain from the original temporary ban on owner sponsorship, but vote against the actual new rule? Thought I read that somewhere.

Whatever, it's a bit of sponsorship shithousery to complement Bernardo's on-field shithousery. Good fun.

Don’t worry about them, be comfortable that we have the right people in charge.
They are not only the right people, but they are in fact financial geniuses.
Not only do they have to find the money to buy every trophy, but they need to find the cash to convince the CAS, in a brown envelope obviously, that it’s legit money in the first place , then they need to find the dosh to similarly pay off UEFA and the FA and the PL, then of course they need to pay off pigmol, and every referee individually and all who work in VAR.
Then, on top of all that, they have to spend loads on putting together a world-class squad just to try to convince all the doubters and accusers that we are winning every trophy by our own merits on the pitch and that we are not merely buying every single one of them.
Its quite simple when you understand how football works.

I do care how other see us. I find sadness when Liverpool fans put on twitter , nothing to see here , meaning that City keep on cheating , that tweet is then retweeted 1000 times.
Personaly I know we are not cheating but with this deal we are giving all our enemy fuel on the fire.
I know I should not care but I do , Our owners want bigger global fanbase, I think it is time to be more global , our partners deals with Abu Dhabi Company´s are the only thing they have left to beat us with. UEFA ban and CAS had everything to do with sponsors income and relations to our owner.
Again I know we did nothing wrong, but UEFA did and everyone else did think we did cheat.
I want something else then Etihad as our mane sponsors , we are big enough to find another partner, when that happenes we can finally say fuck you to everyone.

We're saying that already on a trophy by trophy basis

Cost me 12.5 grand the bastard. Mrs Bozzie used to sit there with a face like a slapped arse every Sunday morning when 'Jimmy Hill's Sunday Supplement' was on. Got to the point where we had a conservatory built so that she didn't have to watch him, next minute he's sacked and replaced by Brian Woolnough! We still call it 'The Jimmy Hill Conservatory' to this day.
Good job she didn't get a Jimmy Savile Sauna!

With the greatest of respect mate you need to grow a set on this one. Etihad have been a key partner of the club since 2009, they have been categorised as unrelated to our owners and club by multiple yearly auditors & the Court of Arbitration for Sport since 2009. We are a big part of their world brand also, it’s a 2 way street.

Do you honestly think if we left Etihad & signed up with say PlayStation for example that it’d make any difference to the perception of our rivals and detractors? They’d just say we’d got to that position through a ‘fake’ sponsorship with Etihad, so we are damned if we do and don’t in their eyes.

The simple answer is fuck them, they’ve tried every trick in the book to hinder us and we’ve wiped the floor with them every time, because we are the best run football club/sports organisation on the planet. Enjoy the success & leave them and their legions of brainless idiot fans and journalists to crying, you’ll feel much better. Trust me, I’m talking from experience.

It would be unusual for a product (City) strongly associated with the Middle East not to attract Middle Eastern sponsorship. United have Chevrolet (no real presence in UK) but American owners. In addition, a growing proportion of our sponsorship comes from elsewhere. Arsenal and United are heavily sponsored by Middle East interests. Are we suppose to cut our nose off to spite our faces.
I grew up supporting City. Supporting City has always been about battling against the mainstream. We are just fighting on a different front. We are fighting the Cartel. The moment we let their narrative dictate our actions, they have won.

What exactly can be expected form a luxury hotel?

doubt I’ll ever have the cash for one!

Usually a Michelin chef and a suite rather than just a room, or at least a very large room. And a very well stocked mini-fridge. They’ll look after you well, very polite and accommodating to most of your requests.

Spot on.

I find it interesting (and rather satisfying) that there is barely a TV pundit out there who has a bad word to say about how well we are run as a football club and as a business. The likes of Neville, Souness etc - but actually all of them. They cannot help but publicly recognise that we have become a class act - because we are.

The only crap we get is from bitter and mentally challenged opposing fan morons.
