I am not entirely sure if I got it right, but I think Chelsea's sales of Mata, De Bryune, and Luiz accounted for their purchases in summer 2013 and Jan 2014. this then allowed them to post a profit, and it was only profit b/c Mata and Luiz were at least over valued by 20 Million combined. Their purchases this season are funded mostly by Lukaku, and I think Chelsea are might be about to face losses or at least realize they wont be able to spend again in a similar manner with FFP. hence the changing tune from Mournio, who just a couple of months ago was asking points to be deducted or trophies taken for FFP violation

Money from the Luiz sale will be in the next accounts. But the money they sold Luiz and Lukaku for have paid for the signings this summer.

thanks for the correction

Re: City & FFP (continued)

I saw Barcelona have hired Neymar's dad to land them sponsorships in Brazil. Made me wonder if City would hire influential business men in countries to try and land them multiple deals. Of course we don't have the brand power of Barca, but must be lots of money to be made in places like China?

Pretty sure we're already on the same path when you look at deals like the Nissan partnership.

Well I think it's Tom Glick's job to land partnerships. But what I mean is expanding the portfolio even more than we could imagine. Like 5-10 per country, using an influential figure put on the pay roll. My understanding of the business world is very small, so it's just me musing more than actually suggesting it'd work.

Well Neymar's dad sure knows how to make money. Mostly out of Barca so far.

Just wondering if FFP applies to some Governments as well as some football teams?

Todays statement by the Chancellor will no doubt tell us that we are the envy of all European Countries because of the UKs growth and employment record.
He apparently has done this by massive borrowing.
Surely our German, Spanish and French members of the EU are likely to claim this is financially unfair ?

Mourinho never says anything without cause or effect.

The most sobering reality for him and Chelsea is that City have continued to win trophies whilst effectively treading water these last couple of years.

We have gone about our business quietly and with a clear knowledge that our longer term business plans were falling into place.

Chelsea have never had that. They have been able to invest heavily due to sales and little else in the FFP climate.

We've not even been able to have that luxury.

They are just about to announce a big sponsor with Turkish airlines but the real hurdle to their development is no viable site for a new stadium.

The rules were put in place to stop us, what they didn't legislate for was we would also have the impetus to work within the rules better than anyone else.

United took a gamble to rebuild when Jose's first team won everything in sight, they just tried to remain competitive until they could compete again.

Our 'pinch' seems one of astuteness.

All good points.

Plus, FFP rules allow unlimited owner investment on club infrastructure and training etc (as we all know) and we are in the incredibly fortunate position of having an owner who's prepared to make enormous investment in these areas.

But Abramovic doesn't differentiate between £100m spent on infrastructure or £100m spent on players. To him its all money and money he'd rather have in his back pocket than elsewhere. Does anyone think Sheikh Mansour would stump up (say) £500m of his own money for a brand new stadium, if it was the the right thing needed at some point in the future? Yes, I am sure he would. Would Abramovic do the same? I am not so sure.

So Chelsea finding somewhere for a new stadium is one problem, finding the resources to pay for it might be quite another.
