Wonder what that daft cnut from the Gunners Fans Forum will make of it all ?

He's never let cast-iron facts get in the way of his rhetorical presentations before, why would he start now?

A mixture of vitriol and sobbing would be my guess.

Mourinho never says anything without cause or effect.

The most sobering reality for him and Chelsea is that City have continued to win trophies whilst effectively treading water these last couple of years.

We have gone about our business quietly and with a clear knowledge that our longer term business plans were falling into place.

Chelsea have never had that. They have been able to invest heavily due to sales and little else in the FFP climate.

We've not even been able to have that luxury.

They are just about to announce a big sponsor with Turkish airlines but the real hurdle to their development is no viable site for a new stadium.

The rules were put in place to stop us, what they didn't legislate for was we would also have the impetus to work within the rules better than anyone else.

United took a gamble to rebuild when Jose's first team won everything in sight, they just tried to remain competitive until they could compete again.

Our 'pinch' seems one of astuteness.

All good points.

Plus, FFP rules allow unlimited owner investment on club infrastructure and training etc (as we all know) and we are in the incredibly fortunate position of having an owner who's prepared to make enormous investment in these areas.

But Abramovic doesn't differentiate between £100m spent on infrastructure or £100m spent on players. To him its all money and money he'd rather have in his back pocket than elsewhere. Does anyone think Sheikh Mansour would stump up (say) £500m of his own money for a brand new stadium, if it was the the right thing needed at some point in the future? Yes, I am sure he would. Would Abramovic do the same? I am not so sure.

So Chelsea finding somewhere for a new stadium is one problem, finding the resources to pay for it might be quite another.

I've been thinking along the same lines for a while. There's no doubt in my mind that if Chelsea were able to build a new 60,000 seater stadium then their matchday revenues would be astronomical given that they're located in the most affluent part of the most affluent city in the country. However, a new stadium would cost hundreds of millions of pounds and although Roman has stumped up a huge amount of his own cash since 2003 I don't think he's prepared to finance the cost of a brand new stadium entirely out of his own pocket. He probably isn't in favour of doing it the way Arsenal did with the Emirates and playing the long game either. And neither, I suspect, would Jose. I would imagine Roman's way of financing this still rests on coming to an agreement with the Chelsea Pitch Owners who, after reading up on them just now, interestingly hold even more power at the club than I previously imagined.

That said, I do feel that as things stand Chelsea should have few problems remaining competitive for the foreseeable future despite what Mourinho said.

They better get a hurry on. I need to be out soon and don't want to miss the announcement.
