All very good points, mate.

Sad but true. We may catch them revenue-wise this year, but that's unlikely to be sustained because they will get a boost when their Adidas money kicks in, and sadly we have to face the very real prospect that the twats might get 4th this year and be back into the gravy league.

We grew our commercial revenue by £23m last year and by £35m the year before. So unless this take a MESSI leap sometime soon, we'll be behind them again in terms of revenue in the 2015/16 financial year.

One thing to cling on to: The Adidas deal can be cancelled if they get relegated. We can hope, can't we ;-)

Amended.
Amended.

Does anyone know where the court case is at this moment against ffp? What would uefa do realistically if we broke ffp rules by signing messi? For me it could only be a fine because they wouldn't dare ban a team containing kompany, yaya, silva, messi and aguero from the champs lge!

Imagine if we signed Messi. Every game would be a sell out. Away from home the atmosphere would be hostile as no doubt the media would put the spin on us being the big bad wolf and all would want to beat us.

I for one would do a Keegan - love it

If we take the piss out of them and sign messi, they won't think twice about banning us.

I think that would be foolish of uefa.

The case hasn't started and will probably take years. And in any case, it's not about the concept of FFP but the way it's implemented (namely the break-even requirement). Even if UEFA lost, FFP would just need to be achieved in a different way.

We certainly wouldn't sign Messi if we knew it would make us fail FFP but there's no reason it should, as we will be reporting significant profits from next season onwards, when any purchase would hit the accounts. And it would be another two and a half years anyway before UEFA would be in a position to assess those accounts. So don't lose any sleep over it.

Put your mind at rest, Messi aint leaving Barcelona this transfer window, and certainly not whilst they can't buy any player during their transfer ban.

How long will it be before a club buy a player where most of the sponsors put up the cash (indirectly)...

For instance, say City wanted to buy Messi (not that it will happen)... but his price tag is 120m (say). City can't pay it because they'll fail FFP (say), so, a group of sponsors offer City an advance on a sponsorship deal based on the understanding that City sign him. They give City 80m the year before, with a clause to say if we don't buy him, they get the money back.

Ideally, we'd not have to do this, we'd only have to demonstrate a business plan to show how we'd earn our money back on him, but UEFA won't accept that, they want the money available upfront.

I wonder how they'd deal with that sort of situation? The market (our sponsors) would be demonstrating their own valuation of the deal and stumping the cash one year upfront (in order to satisfy FFP).
