The Glaziers have been good owners, the only issue is they have probably been to easy going and trusted the judgment of the execs/management far too much in the face of obvious incompetence.

Whatever your opinion of Woodward he was exceptional at bringing commercial deals into the club, but in pure footballing terms he was a nightmare and incompetent.

The rags are the victim of a single man (Ferguson) having complete and utter control of a club for 20 years and having no structure in place when he left, the loss of Gill was also a huge loss.

Having money is no guarantee of success, Everton are a classic example of that, 500million spent and a shambles of a club.

The point I would add relates to Ferguson and United having a transfer policy trapped in the 1990s they still live in an era where they think stockpiling big name signings will bring success… they have no tactical plan, no transfer strategy and still seem to chase high profile players for the sake of it - in fact they seem to have become slightly obsessed with stopping City buying players rather than addressing their own needs.

Edwood Strategy was to get star players with as many followers on social media as possible get the bestest mostest interaction on social media to keep them relevant and for him to point in the direction of this to would be sponsor.

City Football Group announces collaboration with Blue United Corporation - Esports Insider

City football Group, the ownership group behind Manchester City, agreed on a partnership with Japanese esports team Blue United.

City Football Group (CFG), the ownership group behind Manchester City, New York City FC and a number of other football teams, has announced a collaboration with Blue United Corporation, the parent company of FIFA team Blue United eFC.

As a part of the collaboration, Blue United players will wear new sky blue playing kits that will have CFG branding. Moreover, the team’s talent will participate in a number of CFG fan events in the future.

According to the release, Blue United eFC will also participate on behalf of Yokohama F.Marinos in the Japanese eJLeague. The Japanese football club is partly owned by CFG.

Blue United eFC are the current FIFA champions in Asia. The team’s players have qualified for three out of the last four FIFAe World Cups and are ranked in the top five FIFA esports teams in the world.

Takehiko Nakamura, President and CEO of Blue United, said: “I am delighted to collaborate with City Football Group, one of the most successful football business entities in the world, which owns notable football clubs such as Manchester City.

“Our objective lately has been to build our own properties so we can accomplish our vision to contribute to the development of Japanese sports businesses and to the globalization of the sports industry to make it one of the top sectors in the world.”

This is the fourth season that Blue United eFC is participating in international FIFA Esports competitions, and its roster currently consists of two professional FIFA players: Agu and Tsakt.

Tsakt, professional player of Blue United eFC, added: “I’m excited about the collaboration with City Football Group. Four years ago, we aimed to compete in international tournaments, but now we aim for global success. I consider Manchester City to be one of the world’s best teams in both football and esports, and I am confident our collaboration will be essential to our success at the global level.”

The City Football Group most notably collaborated with FaZe Clan on content and fan experiences. The Group has been a steady investor in esports since 2016 when it signed Kieran ‘Kez’ Brown to represent Manchester City at FIFA tournaments.

The partnership with Blue United will strengthen its presence in the esports world as well. With the help of City Football Group, Blue United will look towards winning its first FIFA eWorld Cup.

I think if van Gaal had stayed a bit longer then they may have been better off. The media went for him though, and that overrode his obvious football knowledge regarding development. It may have been dull, but he won a cup and was given a repair job. Now they have remnants from 4 managers and no apparent forward coach.

I'd also suggest that the Glazer takeover have been a godsend to the PL, having drained hundreds of millions from MU; if they'd had that, they'd have been much further clear.

You have a huge non sequitur at the heart of your statement which reads "I have money, therefore I win." It is just not true and it certainly does not follow that you can dispense with smart operators.
Swales had money to start with.

It's not a meritocracy. Man Utd and a number of clubs were the architects of the Premier League and Champions League that stratified football and created what has become known as the top 4 who have huge financial and therefore footballing advantage.

City bought into that closed shop and now it operates to our advantage hence City's budget completely dwarfs most rivals.

As for Man Utd, their budget is similar. Their ownership made the mistake in relying on an investment banker to run their football operation. Both City, and Man Utd's football operation were similarly financed. Once produced winning results, the other crashed. The success of each was down not to the ownership but the executives who run each operation.

City's owner is an owner in absentia. Likewise the Glazers. They do not micromanage the clubs. And yes City's monopoly of football does indeed owe much to the framework that Gill and co drew up. You simply have to compare the footballing world of Peter Swales where a Derby, Forest or Villa could win the football league to the era of the Premier League which a small group of clubs has monopolised for years.

Economic power allows an owner to invest in shrewd operators but it is a pre-condition for success. Once you are successful you should remain successful.
