So exactly like F. Marinos, Melbourne, and NYCFC (to a lesser degree).
Seems like this is the model: buy teams from smaller, less known, but football/sports mad markets with higher transparency and little corruption.

If true, then it sounds more like a way of legitimately hoovering up South American talent rather than for commercial reasons.

Pretty sure we signed Rulli from a a Uruguayan club - don't know if there is a link there.

Deportivo Maldonado, who seem to have been set up by their current owners as a sort of clearing house for young S.American talent to be sold on to European clubs.On the face of it it seems to be an attempt to get around third party ownership rules.

This article refers to Calleri who came on as a sub for West Ham today and is on loan from Maldonado.
