City "fourth most hated club" in the Premier League

We cannot say the press have that much influence to making fans of other clubs hate but then in the next breath ignore the fact that the clubs the media 'fawn over' are actually the clubs which are most hated.

You'd need to know a little more about the survey to pick the bones out of the results. Were the same number of supporters of each club allowed to vote? It's not hard to imagine the rags, the Arse and the Chavs copping it from all and sundry after years of arrogance and epic cuntery, and the media fawning probably gets on everyone else's tits. City's placement is probably a reflection of our being a ready made enemy for the other top 5 or 6 PL regulars, whose trophy winning potential has been directly and adversely affected by our emergence, with a bit of media negativity chucked in. Beyond that though you're probably right. It's all a load of old shite

You could have said similar things about Stockport County and Tranmere Rovers fans a generation ago. I guess I just don't like denigration of fans who've taken, and stuck with, a difficult path, irrespective of the presence of a number of interlopers. We, of all supporters, should empathise with that.

No denigration intended. Just contemplating that people in certain parts of the country often follow more than one team, and that their Premiership 'allegiances' might be what added to City's 'hate' rating from a town with no other obvious reason for feeling that way about us.
And dear lord yes I can empathise with choosing a difficult path. There were only 2 City fans in my entire 800 pupil school and I used to cop untold sneering and flak. Turned out alright though!

Its no coincidence the biggest and most successful clubs are top of those rankings and unsurprisingly, local clubs aside, after United most City fans would see the games against Spurs, Arsenal, Pool, Chelsea with a bit more spice about them. Naturally they would be considered our rivals and similarly for an Arsenal/United fan the same would be true.

Also as you say were as many West Ham/Sunderland fans surveyed as United fans clubs who would probably have an affinity with us or was it skewed based on average attendances or skewed based on nothing more than those who responded?

We will never know, but fourth does not seem too bad. It goes with success and being high profile.

Exactly right pal!

That doesn't follow at all.

What we can say is that, but for the media's baleful reporting of city we would not be disliked so widely, and but for the media's fawning over the rags they would be even more hated than they already are.

You might not agree with that but logically it's an entirely consistent position.

It is consistent.

We've no Idea how scientific the survey is but I reckon that most fans other than those of the rags and red scousers hate the way the press fawn over them and know that they're mainly followed by glory hunters.

Plus, as they have the biggest fanbases and hate each other, it's also entirely logical that they'll be the most hated. You'd expect that in fact.

We'll probably be up there because we have a load of rags hating us but the media treatment we get probably doesn't help.

The rags don't hate us at all. They are completely indifferent to us. This is a well established fact.
