City named as “Club of the Year”

I'll be honest. I never paid attention to this before. I suppose you don't, if it's not your club.
Nice to have it, but it's a slightly odd choice for this year, in my view. City could and should have been awarded it in 2019, when we did something that has never been done before, ever, in our domestic league, and hasn't been done since for the time being. But I suppose my problem with all these awards is that they're based very much on what you've done in Europe that year. And I care far less about that than what we've done at home.
A case in point. Looking back at the full list of laureates, I am astonished to see that Maradona was never awarded the Ballon d'Or. That guy almost single-handedly brought Napoli their first ever title, and rejuvenated not just a club (no club in southern Italy had won it at that point) but an entire city. Perhaps no single player has ever had such an electrifying effect on a club and a region. I haven't checked but I suppose they didn't do much in Europe (they did win the UEFA cup, though, beating Juve and Bayern on the way, so not mickey mouse stuff).

Edit: ah, my bad. The Club of the Year has only been around since last year! Not very surprising nobody knows it.

The best comment I found underneath the talkwank article was this one...

The owners of Manchester City, have already bought the English sport media, they're talksport, sky sports and BBC sports and Uefa with their Qatar state money. It a fact look at the value of city team £1BL they're the most expensive team in the world yet can't win champions league

lol
