City PL Fixtures 2016-2017

Thanks JGL07, for some reason I had the last Thursday of July down as a EUROPA date, I've been to Easter Rd so Aberdeen or Hearts being at home would be a bonus should they get through.

I've got a game at Abroath pencilled in during the week, is it true it's the coldest ground out there?.

The coldest I have ever been at football was a January game at Arbroath.

For some reason anyone that wants to look at Big Sam Allardyce they look at his time at West Ham United. Perhaps that is is most recent past job or perhaps they see Sunderland as a sleeping West Ham United. A team capable of doing what they have done. And although he was appointed with them a Championship club, his reign in the PL saw him finish 10th' in the 12'-13' season, 13th in the 13'-14' season and 12th in the 14-15'.

At Bolton in the 01'-02' season they finished 16th back in the Premier League, 17th in the 02'-03' campaign, a massive improvement in the 03-04' season finishing 8th, even better coming 6th in the 04-05 season, and back in 8th at the end of the 05-06 PL season.

At the mags he helped them to 13th at the end of the 06-07 season before leaving for Blackburn where he finished 15th in the 08-09 season and 10th in the 09-10 campaign where he left for The Hammers.

And as you can see virtually mid table every time. Whether or not he can repeat that feat with us remains to be seen. For us that would be a monumental achievement considering how many years we have been stuck near the bottom. He isn't working with the same players. But that, if it happens, could have had a better start than one of the best teams in the land away and Chelsea away on the final day!!
He's a decent manager to be fair to him. If he gets his way with transfers this summer I think you're lot will be looking up rather than down.

I get the impression it's mainly players/culture at Sunderland which hold the club back. They seem to be incredibly laid back right up until shit hits the fan, then after a couple of proper performances they're safe again. I doubt big Sam will keep anyone who's not giving 100% week in week out and with three or four additions it could be a good, mid-table squad.

Fingers crossed for your lot anyway. I like Sunderland.

I've read first televised games to be announced 1st week of July with a further batch announced a few weeks after.

I'm hoping they don't move the West Ham game from saturday (friday night would be okay though). Booked my flight over this morning; Knock to Liverpool, flying over Friday mid afternoon, returning Sunday afternoon. €42.

What do people reckon about this one being shifted from its 3 pm kick-off, though? Either to a 1.30 pm or 5 pm start? Can't really see us being moved to Friday or Sunday for this one. It so happens I'll be training down from Edinburgh (and back), and I'd quite like to get my train tickets fairly shortly. Suppose I'd better wait till beginning of July and tv schedules. Tottenham vs Liverpool seems to be the only "big" fixture competing with it in the television stakes.

The reason I booked it "blind", so to speak, is that if I wait for the TV games to be announced, I wouldn't get that low fare then; it'll probably be up nearer to the ton by early-mid july. If it turns out that I can't make it, it's only €40-odd. Fingers crossed it doesn't move to sunday/monday. Wouldn't be able to make it then.

Yep. I've got that exact same problem. I'd be sort of surprised if it was moved a whole day this early in the season, tbh. It's not that big a fixture, even at the best of times — and the table won't have hotted up only second home game in for us. I think you're safe, jh. But I've been burnt in the past. If you're flying on one of the low-costs, as I assume you are, you lose the lot, don't you?

It certainly will not be moved to Friday as City will have a Champions League playoff round in the midweek before the match.

Sunday is certainly possible. I am in the same position having to book train tickets from Edinburgh. It is daft to book anything before the TV fixtures are published.

I would have thought that City v West Ham was at least a similar if not a bigger draw than Tottenham v Liverpool? Both are likely to be televised live.

Not so sure, frankly. Whether we like it or not, Tottenham vs Liverpool has a history to it that the other fixture doesn't have. It's marginal. As you say, both will be the televised games. Theirs might be moved, rather than ours, but one will be shifted.
You will have noticed that there is £21 ticket down, and £21 back that fits very nicely with a 3 pm kick-off… that's screwed if they move ours.

Have you any idea when the Scottish televised fixtures for the early part of the season are out?.

I've a confession to make I'm a bit of a ground hopper and pass the straight jacket I actually prefer heading north of the border. I've got 11 of the 42 grounds done and I'm thinking about having a week up in Scotland at the end of July, with all the league cup games that week I could visit 5 new grounds. Am I correct in assuming that Thursday 28th July is one of the dates in which Hearts and Aberdeen will be playing in the EUropa league?, never been to either ground so that would be an extra bonus if either are drawn at home.

if you ever need tickets for Hearts give me a shout and I will do my best

If we are talking about the West Ham home game here I think you are going to have to take into account their involvement in Europa League qualifiers. My understanding is one takes place the Thursday before our game is due to take place so if they are involved then it is pretty much guaranteed our match won't be happening on the Saturday. I think they could get knocked out in the qualifying round before but I'd be surprised if that happened if they came up against minnows from other nations?
