spurs at maine road early 70s. spurs scored with about 15 minutes to go. straight from the kick off the ball went out to buzzer on the right wing. he ran with it then floated it into the middle where alan oakes met it at least 35 yards out and it rocketed into the top corner.
the only shot i saw at city that was equally as hard was tony coleman against southampton at maine road about 1969. the ball was floated into the middle where t.c., running parallel with the edge of the penalty area, somehow contrived to twist himself and hit a thunderous shot a goal. for a couple of seconds the crowd didn't know where the ball was then, as one, went mental when they saw it was lodged at the back of the stanchion.

You know what mate,i`ve still only seen that header once.At Maine Road.Never seen it on You Tube or anywhere else,but yes spot on,that was as good as any shot.

Nope, Oakes would get my vote too, I don't recall him scoring from inside the penalty area, every goal was a rocket. The first goal against Bilbao in the Cup Winners Cup was a classic Oakes goal.

west broms derick statham hit one against the the post from 40-45 yards against the rags, the post was rattling till half time.
