Possibly he is seen as an eventual replacement for Tevez in summer. There were a lot of reports saying Tevez would stay until the summer get us into the Champions League and then be sold. Lukaku seems a good prospect.

hope its true this kid is amazing... 2 years ago when he was a 15 year old playing in the under 18s he scored 205 goals in one season

Even if the reports that a deal has been agreed are false it's still quite positive. This confirms we're interested in signing him, and suggests we'll at least be one of the teams at the negotiating table.
