It wasn't a bad thing that you couldn't always see what was going on , on the pitch at Maine road though !
I started in the family stand in front of that CCTV booth in the main stand and im pretty sure i couldnt see the goal most times i went. More often than not like you say, it was probably a good thing.

Emirates is my least favourite stadium because it is all about corporates with normal fans split and shunted out of the way so lacking in atmosphere. Wembley is similar but bigger. Matchday revenue is now dwarfed by tv and commercial money with atmosphere a key selling point so less priority on the corporate.

Lets hope City follow the trend and create a fans end in the North stand with safe standing. I am sure architects can come up with imaginative solutions that incorporate the current roofing.

My guess is our owners have been occupied with looking at the collar site as a whole so development is coherent and can be done at the same time. I am sure they will also be waiting to see how the Spurs ground works out to be sure we have a stadium as impressive as our team. Safe standing is also sure to come so better to specificaly design it with this in mind than adapt existing areas.

It would be an architectural challenge, but there are so many other issues as well
There is as you a say the debate on safe standing and will it ever be brought into the English game. There are still so many more powerful people against it
What about the family stand and where would this be located!
The L2 corporate section behind the goal, City won't want to lose that revenue.

If the Club decides to go "one big end" will this mean that the better non padded areas of the stadium will be annexed for hospitality thus pissing off numerous supporters who have season cards for those areas and also supporters who like where they currently are seated who are booted out because of the relocation of the family stand

North stand redeveloped into one huge safe standing area would be mega.

These are the sacrifices the club has to make to finally create a proper atmospheric singing end/stand.

You can't stop the Etihad progressing and expanding because of the family stand and one corporate section.

Something's have to give.

Safe standing is a few years away yet, but most PL clubs now want it. There are still some clubs against it. Think Shrewsbury or another lower division club have put themselves forward to trial it in England. Even the Liverpool Hillsborough Group are now backing safe standing.

With 20,000 fans moving to a new NS single tier, there will be plenty of blocks available to relocate the Family Stand to. It doesn't have to be as big as the current one, as it's rarely full, if we're honest.

As for that corporate section. An additional 6000 fans or more, would match and pass the income lost from that one corporate section.

As things stand, what ever City do with the NS, and if they club want a safe standing section, which they do, that will only happen if the Family Stand is relocated, and the safe standing section is located at the bottom of a singled or double tiered NS.

Do you think it’s possible for a big one tier stand to be constructed for the north stand? Surely it would mean that some of the stand would have to close during the season.

Bit of bump.

Nothing new.

But plans for Everton's new stadium including a Dortmund style yellow wall stand behind one goal have been released. Spurs are also doing something similar with their new stadium. United have the Stretford End. Liverpool have the KOP. We have the North stand waiting to be redeveloped. I think the redevelopment and design is obvious. One single safe standing stand. Leave the rest of the Etihad seating. 40,000 seating/20,000 safe standing (North Stand) split.

I sincerely hope the people running the club don't go for a 2 or 3 tier safe standing and seating option for any North stand redevelopment. As a club we have one more final chance to create a stand for the fans to stand and to support the team, while allowing other City fans who would prefer to sit and to watch the match to do so in the other 3 stands.

Early proposal of Everton's Proposed new stadium.

If we have three tiers at the North Stand it’ll be a huge missed opportunity that we can never really go back in until we move grounds again (when will that be? In 100 years’ time?).

Spurs, now Everton, look like they’re going to have wonderful stadiums with proper stands for atmosphere. Ours on the other hand...

The only other thing I ever think of is going back to our roots and having what is the East Stand turned into a huge one-tier’d super stand along the side of the pitch like the Kippax used to be. But that’s so unlikely to happen. But it would be unique and individual to City. Not just going for an end like every other Tom Dick and Harry stadium.

What about a corporate standing section, this could include wider standing stalls with heated feet pads and hot air blowers with the usual corporate food and drink hospitality? They could (almost) experience what it's like to be a "real" fan

Its the main thing thats missing from the etihad. a proper home end. what we have now is a bit pathetic tbh. barely a few blocks with away fans in the middle of it. we don't need safe standing to build it either, just build a seated home end for now that can be converted. if it means people being moved then so be it, it would be worth it long term.

i agree with above, if we build the north stand like the south stand it would be a complete wasted opportunity and we will end up with 3 separate tiers with no proper singing end still. we have to be one of the only teams without a proper home end.
