City v Arsenal post match thread

Can't believe what I've read on here tonight.

One of the most promising centre backs in the country , an inexperienced 18 year old, should never wear the shirt again, and we should resign Kasper Schmeichel.

How some of you survived the wilderness /shite years is totally beyond me (that's if you were even around then of course)

Kasper was better than hart last year though, wouldn't be the worst signing ever

Need to get a grip some of you lot on here, its a pre season friendly! If you were that clued up you'd be in the hotseat!

hes not wrong tho. The overreaction on here is amusing. Did people actually think after a few months in charge pep would miraculously transform us into barca/Bayern especially with most of next season staters only really just coming back from training, only Fernandinho who is a genuine starter has been At it from day one. Its going to take time. Saying that though, we played with kolarov and Fernando as Cb's Ffs, I'm pretty sure we won't see that ever again. Hopefully ;)

Saying all that not sure how any grown man or women could be upset at a friendly loss. That's the problem with having friendlies on tv, people who watch it expect us to play like we would in the league when in reality it's nothing like the same. Its going to take time for us to play 100% the way pep wants, people who think it'll happen overnight are just kidding themselves.

I agree completely

On the bright side - Even though the defence was a total shambles we should have got something out of that game as YaYa and Navas missed two open goals!

Why the suprise. We are a team in major transition. New coach, new players, new tactics etc etc.

There are some dreamers on here that think it's all just going to click into place & that other teams can't or won't be able to stop us.

Get real people. We're under prepared & the next 5 months will be choppy.

BTW......before the apologists & attack dogs pipe up,not a rag,not a flapper,not a wummer

I think that is spot on

Fair comments mate!...and didnt take your post as flapping or wumming! ;) You made some good points!

The way I look at it is, if we knew Pep was coming like many say, we should have been better prepared. Even us fans that dont get paid to recruit can tell anyone that Fernando isnt technical enough for Pep, Mangala, Kolarov, Bony, even Zab (who I love) are not "fits for this system".....and you could argue that 90% of our shortcomings have not been addressed this transfer window. Whether thats down to the fact we cant get rid of players, or whatever the reason....As they said during the match today...we are the 3rd oldest team in the prem....even without Sane, Jesus, Moreno this team is capable of winning the prem "IF" we took care of the back 4 this summer......

Genuine question for all, when you look at age/experience and long term potential of most of our transfer business this summer, is Txiki/Pep already thinking more long term and less about this season? Almost as if they've conceded that they'll need to wait 12 months before they will be able to get players off their books and truly have the turnover in the squad they need.

Arsenal fan in peace here. Now it seemed like you conceded those 3 goals on the counter because of committing players too far up the pitch. Whether that's because the players in the second half were weaker or due to tactics I'm not sure. If it's the latter you'll have problems with counter attacking teams this year.

As for us, we're in a right pickle in defense with 3 injured CBs.
Could be right, but weve not even had kompany, otamendi, mangala given a game in pre season, both teams got defensive probs. Good luck to yourselves, glad those wilshere romours went away!!!

The problem i seen today was how bad the midfield were
at coming short to help defence when we play ball out of defence.
That surely is basic when playing this system.
Arse pushed up on our defence and Delph or fern never came short
in space to receive the ball. Just not working as a unit yet.
Could take a while I think.

your not allowed to have that anymore - defenders who can actually defend. it doesnt work and its old fashioned, just look at ranieris side...

Imo, had Otto & Mangala played today, we would have passed the ball around just fine, & won quite comfortably. All of Arsenal's chances were easily defendable. I'm not the biggest fan of either, but they are both miles better than the players who played there & much fitter/quicker to close space than old Zabba & Kolarov. If we can find a partnership which is better still defensively & can pass it around better then fine.

But in the meantime I will be surprised if one or both aren't playing next Saturday. I will also be surprised if Kolarov is in the team in fact, at the club, come Sept. I think Pep is trying him out & he's failling the audition.
