City v Arsenal post match thread

Feel for Denayer but I doubt he'll play under Pep if Tosin, Fernando and Kolarov are all ahead of him.

Mangala may be on his way out but he should've started tonight over Fernando, who I rate very highly but is not a CB by a long stretch.

My on,y worry is the fact that NONE of our senior CBs have even had any time on an actual pitch - Ota, kompany and Managala. This is my only concern as CBs require to have developed a trust/partnership , more so now than ever due to the new playing it out from the back approach.m

What is even more confusing is mangala never played for France so why not play him in pre season? The Cbs also need time to adjust to this new play it out from the back system. Friendly or not we would have got more playing oti, mangala , Denayor tonight at CB and being crap / unfit than playing fernando and kolorov.

I know it's a friendly but we start next week and this should be about being/ getting ready for that game. Defensively at least we are not there yet.

We have to remember that Arsenal are probably the hardest premier league oponent to play with this system....were still learning with our better technical players to come back into the team....the worry is that Pep thought Kolarov and Fernando could play CB together.......hopefully lesson learnt.....lets continue to improve and judge things 3-4 games in. Its certainly going to be exciting !!

Bullshit. You have no idea why he picked them today.

I guess the result isn't important but still isn't very enjoyable.
Felt it was an uncomfortable performance with some flashes of brilliance. Perfect crosses Raheem and Jesús and nice finishes Sergio and Kelechi. But thought 2 of the goals conceded were sloppy. I don't know what exactly we were trying or had planned. It will take time for us to master this style of play, but I hope to see more of the intense pressing and slick passing we saw in the other friendlies.

The shit that gets written on here ffs !

Grow the fuck up

We have the best coach in the world but he's not a fucking magician. It's going to take a little time to get the team playing as he wants. We may well lose some games we don't expect but in the long run it will be worth it.

Buckle up and enjoy the ride and ffs quit the moaning and making like you know better than Pep

back from the game. i needed a couple of pints after that. For my heart sake i hope i never se Fernado and kolorov as center backs again

Just to put these games in to perspective Barca lost 4-0 to Liverpool yesterday.

I'm pretty confident that wouldn't happen if they played in a competitive fixture.

I'm also confident that Pep won't play Fernando and Kolarov at centre back together!

That loss was an exception to the rule.

The same old players of ours playing badly is the rule.

Do we expect these players to suddenly be amazing in a weeks time?

Could be right, but weve not even had kompany, otamendi, mangala given a game in pre season, both teams got defensive probs. Good luck to yourselves, glad those wilshere romours went away!!!

Haha, I'm glad to keep him too despite his glass ankles. Rumours were Pep wanted to shift 1 or 2 of those CBs and bring in a 'ball playing CB', not sure what the situation on that is? Think you'll go back in for Stones? If you let teams go 4 against 3, whichever CBs will have a hard ride.

It was odd that with Sunderland at the weekend we didn't give our central defensive option a run out. Unless that was it?!

On the bright side - Even though the defence was a total shambles we should have got something out of that game as YaYa and Navas missed two open goals!

I thibnk in the urge to whinge & flap, people have also missed how completely at ease Garcia, Angelino & Zinchenko were in Pep's system, how a half fit KDB created 3 times as much danger as DS how easily Navas picked out Kelechi for a HEADED goal, something we never saw all last season.

The 'old gurad' are the players who need to watch their backs imo.

A perspective from a Gooner

i thought you'd probably stuff us today, but we did play some typically nice football at times.

Yet again we are pretty much inactive in the transfer market desperately needing a striker and not just one centre back but probably two now though after Gabriel's injury

With us its always one step forward two steps back......I despair... I really do

As for the game, nice to win but matters not a jot with both coaches using it as a chance to test the full squad

As to the season ahead, I'm not that sure that any team has been impressive, despite even Liverpool's defeat over a Barcelona some way from the start of their season

i wish we had Aguero. I think we'd win the league with him. Great player and someone whose movement is a joy to watch. Im not going to say much about City but I think he best days of some of your older players are likely behind them.

From my perspective, it's great to see Cazorla back. He's class and a game changer. Even Theo seems to have been eating his shredded wheat this week.

I like Iwobi's commitment, strength and ability and I hope he does well this season.

But, my God, we are in desperate need of centre backs.

Prediction for the season at this stage? No idea, but I reckon we are still good for a top 4 finish. Im not sure we can win.

Didn't see anything today from City that would make them favourites for the league but they'll be there or thereabouts.

As to the other teams, I really don't see any one stand out. Another surprise? Maybe Stoke?

Who knows? What I do know is that these pre season friendly games are very much the phoney war. I wouldn't spend too much time dwelling on them

Bit worried bout the start of the prem season after that! All over the show at the back and the pressing game was sporadic at best.

As some have said we will need to be patient and allow Pep time to put his stamp on things.

The centre back situation is very odd tho. Why mot give Denayer more game time, he is certainly better than ak and fernando at centre half?

Still don't understand why Denayer didn't get any game time today. Guardiola really mustn't fancy him if he's playing Kolarov and Fernando there ahead of him.

Ric, thats my thinking...Clearly both Kolarov and Fernando are not good enough to play CB position, which makes no game time for Denayer, even stranger...

I thought you'd stuff us because we had no defence, and have not had many pre-season games (our fault).

You deserved to win. Hope Gabriel is OK.

Regarding City, it was last season't team minus central defenders. Sane, Gundogan injured. Jesus to join in Janaury. And of course it's all change with a new manager. Expecting the finish product in pre-season would be insane, nevertheless we all look for it
