City v Arsenal post match thread

Today Pep must have learnt a lot about the players. Surely Kolarov Fernando are not that versatile he was trying them in new positions for that reason, they both need to go and we need TWO Centre backs. Mangala is all but gone and Denayer will most likely be sold. Kompany otamendi plus a couple more.

Positives were Sterling Nolito Delph and Navas who needs to stay.

I thought Fernando looked fine when he was further forward involved in midfield, but dodgy when at the back. It would be a surprise if he wasn't dodgy at the back in his first game there though.

I think some of our signings have papered over the cracks. Our attack is fantastic but it's at the back which has me so worried. We are yet to sign a single defender/goalkeeper and haven't got rid of any of the deadwood. This should have happened weeks ago and now we go into the campaign with a worrying backline.

It's a football / City forum. We come on here to debate and that's always going to include criticism as well as praise.
We should never fall into the trap of believing that just because a guy is a famous manager then the fans can't possibly know better - often plenty do - but we never know which ones at any moment in time.
Watching today's game against Arsenal, there was plenty to criticise, and some positives too. However we still lost, and we're in the business of winning games rather than losing them - friendlies or not. If we're experimenting, that's perfectly fine, but it's still an experiment that resulted in a loss rather than a win. Arsenal too were 'experimenting'.

It may well be the case that 'in the long run' it'll be worth it, but by the same measure, the manager only has a three year contract and we've seen off managers in less than that time.

The job starts on day 1, not day 366, and as a result, the fans have a right to express a view from day 1 too. I doubt Guardiola will be giving some players too much of a grace period -
they are expected to deliver for him as rapidly as possible. Is it really much of a surprise if fans have a similar attitude?

We're not actually in the business of winning friendlies, at all. We picked tough games against top sides on purpose to make it difficult.

What is it with some people and this p'ep is god and must never be questioned' attitude?

Obviously he needs time to mould his team. However some of the decisions the club and Pep have taken in pre season do seem worthy of debate on a football forum?

Many of the same people who have spent the last 4 years slating our title-winning and cup winning managers and telling anyone on here that "Pep would have won that game" EVERY time we didn't win are being a little defensive shall we say.

We were told last season, from game 6 onwards, that the "fucking corpse" should be winning the title "easily" with the squad he had, and that the second best manager in the German league would "walk" the title over here .

Since then we have lavished more tens of millions on the "should be pissing the title" squad and appointed pep four years after first asking (begging) him to be our manager.

By that logic this season should be done and dusted by March. Champions again.

You say it for four years, using it as a stick to annihilate a good man and a great manager with, you own it.

Bring on the title.

Ah so because we didn't win some friendly games, the next 3 years are going to be shit.

Ok.
