City v Arsenal post match thread

Many of the same people who have spent the last 4 years slating our title-winning and cup winning managers and telling anyone on here that "Pep would have won that game" EVERY time we didn't win are being a little defensive shall we say.

We were told last season, from game 6 onwards, that the "fucking corpse" should be winning the title "easily" with the squad he had, and that the second best manager in the German league would "walk" the title over here .

Since then we have lavished more tens of millions on the "should be pissing the title" squad and appointed pep four years after first asking (begging) him to be our manager.

By that logic this season should be done and dusted by March. Champions again.

You say it for four years, using it as a stick to annihilate a good man and a great manager with, you own it.

Bring on the title.
A) it was a friendly
B) of these millions spent, how many played today?

Tit.

No mate but touchy subject so was just making it clear I never ;)
Just dont like to see a player (whoever they are) suffer bad injuries like that
Remember lakey?
Fell awkwardly against villa at home 1990?
At a night match and im afraid that was the end hed just come back
Just saying hope the guy is ok

I told my friends before the game that for me it was a case of, Pep "our back 5 are weak, I want to see how you cope and help defend them". (we had a strong front 6) TBH our back 5 caused our problems by frequently giving them the ball either through poor pass choice or just giving it them. Arse are and will be a strong team this season, they moved the ball well when in charge but still have a weak center. Will be a interesting season.

Stopped reading there. Only so I could text Pep and give him your number.
Seriously, do you believe a manager like Pep got to the top because of football genius, or because he was a very good footballer to start with, who was then already at a world leading club with a very impressive talent base? He didn't start at Chadderton Town.

Now that's not a criticism of Pep, it's saying that we buy into the 'genius' of big name managers all too easily and treat them as though they MUST know more about football than everybody else.
It's a myth, an utter myth. They are the film stars / pop stars of the football world. Big name draws. It doesn't make them smarter or more capable.

Yeah I'm gonna go with genius.

And I think he knows more about football than you'll ever imagine knowable.

This is exactly what I think is happening & also some of the senior players are 'on trial' .

Pep got to the top because he has a gift for the game that no one on this forum has.

Surprised that we haven't made more inroads with signings who can help us now, especially at the back. Whenever we have played a top European side I feel we have always been let down by the fact that we only probably have around 7 (of a general starting 11) players who are technically good enough and athletic enough to play at the best level. We've always looked a man short in the middle, a man short at centre back and two full backs short. I'm scratching my head as to why we haven't addressed that and I'm scratching it even more at the experiment of trying two of our slowest and technically worst players at centre back. It seems very un-pep like, although I suppose his options are somewhat limited. Perhaps they are shop window outings.

That said, I don't think we are ready to start the season. I felt the same way last season especially after Stuttgart smashed us. Even though we started the season well, the problems which were evident in pre season soon resurfaced. I just hope that's not the case this season.

As exciting as it is to sign prospects and youngsters, I'd much rather the money go on players who are ready to contribute at a world class level, because that's where we are short by a long shot.

Fuckin hell and I thought the comments on the MEN site were bad. This place is laughable sometimes. It's his 3rd game and it was a friendly against a very good side who finished above us last year!

Bollocks. He's just lucky. Lucky with the teams he managed. Lucky to get the jobs. Lucky to be here. Should be fanchester city in charge.

Never mind what 95% of players say about. Ignore other managers that watch him take training. Ignore Eddie Jones and what he says.

Ignore everything, most fans know more than him. Anything else is just a myth.

I bet the **** is no where near Fanchester's level on Champs manager 2012

Ok, so in summary of preseason i think that the most impressive display was against bayern, then dortmund to a slightly lesser extent, and today was the worst of them. Kind of a weird unfolding, but then, the kids were mostly played against bayern so...maybe something in that.

I really like the look on zinchenko, and also thought that delph had a fairly decent game. The back however is obviously a shambles, and why oh why on gods earth would kolorov be in the team let alone at CB?

Pep must have been trying to send a message, as city watch has already suggested.

but he'll know more than anyone on bluemoan, otherwise txiki would have hired @Marvin months ago.

Seriously are you saying he's only a manager because he got lucky at barca as he played for them and if joe blogs from West gorton who won last years fantasy football comp and who's a beast at footy manager, if givin the same chances pep got he could be managing us now?

Personally im looking forward to life under Pep as i think he will sort things out eventually.

However we pretty much wasted the whole of last season waiting for him to come, stuck in limbo with underperforming stars. So he needs to get things sorted as soon as poss to avoid another mediocre season.

I would of thought the club would of planned pre season better and spent the money adressing our defensive frailties instead of recruiting in areas where we already have talented players.
