I think the British media have their sights set of Joe too. Every little mistake this season will be highlighted.

if it was for example, Pep going ape when Joe kicked the ball long though, that would potentially be a sign of big trouble. Hopefully it's nothing.

He reckoned he saw some bad body language / tension between Joe and Pep.
We'll soon see it for ourselves at the Etihad if it's there. Until then, I'll take Hamann's interpretations with a pinch of salt.

Something about Pep making the players go over to the City fans to applaud them, and Hamman thought the body language between Pep and Hart wasn't great. No footage/pics though just Hammans observations.

I got the impression it was after the game, but I could be wrong. I don't have it recorded and only remember the comment in passing - suggesting there was tension there.

Cheers. Yeah shit like that I'll judge for myself at the games.
I didn't spend much time looking over at the bench over the last 3 years but think I might be making an effort this season.
 
I don't think we're singling Joe out - just discussing one area where many fans think he's weak.
We could just as easily be discussing YaYa's tracking back / stamina, or Silva's reluctance to shoot, or Sergio's sometimes greedy nature etc. Not so much 'all that is bad', just 'what could be better'.

Kicking it in the air is basically the last resort in a Pep team though & a failure to find a decent option, unless it's onto the chest of a player.

If you watch the academy teams, they are tought to pass to the point of danger of giving a goal away. They are never discouraged even when they fuck it up. Pep actually applauded Caballero at one point tonight when he fucked up a pass to the wing, because he had tried a few passes previously.

The last incumbent took 12 months to destroy what we'd spent the previous 5 years building. He took over a well drilled potential Championship winning side and broke it.

Pep has taken over a side who were nearly relegated from the Champions League & just about scraped 4th place. I was one of many who warned that it would take Pep time to stop the rot and fix what was broken and on today's evidence, this is exactly what may happen. We haven't even kicked a ball in anger yet and already you're out seeking revenge for the object of your desire.

Do us all a favour fella, stop being a tit and just drop it.........

All things being equal, when you think about a typical goal kick, the ball is in the air long enough that it's effectively 50/50 who wins the balls. If you're dominant in the air, it makes sense, but if you're not, it's a bit of a crazy thing to do, it becomes worse than 50/50 in that situation.

If you're a strong passing side, passing just makes more sense - it's what 2-3 passes to midfield and you're much more likely to be in possession once it reaches midfield. It's a no brainer in that sense.

playing AK and Fernando at CB over Tosin? Thought you'd hate him, fitting in the past-it pro's in any position over the promising youth.

I think he's making a reasonable point in the sense he's saying people said Pellers was the problem, far less the players. We had a seriously good group of players and Pellers ought to be getting more from them. In that sense, he's right to say that now we have a manager who most regard as one of the very best, if not the best in football. Given that, we should be expecting him to prove the Pellegrini naysayers right and that a quality manager will do much better even with the players he had, let alone with new 'improved' players.

What's not being said is that Pellers did manage to win a league and two league cups, and that last season was truly an atypical one in which 'top teams' fell below par.

To my mind, he's only saying that all those who said 'anybody decent would walk the league' now have somebody decent - so let's see. It's a fair point.

Personally I think the game's a lot more complicated and it's never as easy as just having the best manager. Pep is not a guarantee of anything, and he himself readily admits that. We hope he's going to significantly improve us though - and thus increase our chances of success.

I don't read anything into the pre season teams.

But I'm absolutely delighted with the game time Tosin has had & that Angelino, Maffeo & Garcia have figured. I just hope Denayer doesn't fuck off, but judging by Pep's comments tonight, Mangala is surplus, so even if Stones arrives, there may still be a role for Jason in the squad.

There was a time when this was the mantra of every winger - 'get to the byline and cross it in' - and it was up to somebody else to make sure they were in the box.
There's no reason why it can't still work. The game is a simple one, people just want to make it sound complicated.
Mind you, it helps if you've got Joe Royle in the box ;-)
