CITY v Bolton - Official Matchday Thread

We're slowly catching up our goal-difference. It could be crucial come the end of the season. That's why against Pompey and tonight we should have gone for it a bit more. Still, a win is a win. Doesn't fill me with any confidence though.

Spanking the rags at home should more than cover that.

Just seen the highlights. It looked like a corker of a game.

9 men scumderland. Merrick maybe getting an FA ban as his players are always innocent.
The second one was a shocking elbow. Fully deserved. First one was two stupid yellow cards. Again deserved.

And Pompey should have had about 27 penalties.

Nope, we play a game like that against any of the top 7 or 8 teams and we could lose. We lost to Hull with this shite.

This was reminiscent of the Portsmouth match.

Bolton looked OK, especially Jack Wilshere who, like Adam Johnson, was a contender for the MOTM.

The midfield looks good in terms of closing down opposition possession, but when we are in possession we seem ponderous and cumbersome in the way we distribute the ball. The need to quicken the tempo must be Mancini's first prioity. More first time touch passes are needed to unlock defences and on the rare occasions when we tried this tactic we opened up the defence with good effect.

If we play like this against any of the other top 5 clubs we are going to stryggle.

If I were Mancini, I'd play SWP from the start and Santa Cruz up front with Adebayor wef the Stoke match when ESC will be back in contention for a starting place.

Vieira I though did enough in his role as a 'holding' midfielder of snubbing out the odd attack, but it's clearly obvious that he lacks the pace to withstand ultra quick counter-attacking football, the kind exemplified by the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham. We need another midfield destroyer to break down attacks to support De Jong,

I disagree. I think we have enough defencive midfielders. We need someone who can pick out a pass and its good moving forward. I was amazed at mancini playing de jong, barry and vieira and relegation fodder when at home.

Its really no surprise that when we played the likes of Bellamy and SWP from the start, we won matches.

Its really no surprise that Johnson was our MOTM

Its really no surprise that Johnson was our biggest threat

Its really no surprise that we looked more balanced and stable when SWP came on

Its really is a surprise that Mancini is choosing to play so narrow, so defensive and with all our creative force on the bench. Fuck the sneaking win approach, we can blast through the majority of teams with our attacking talent.
