City v Ipswich 1981 FA Cup Semi

As you say wild celebrations.....a bit of disbelief when the goal went in from an unlikely scorer...although he had scored at Goodson in the previous round.
I seemed to remember we were second best until just before half time...then got on top without creating loads of chances.
We definitely got the toughest semi final draw out of Ipswich, Spurs and I think Wolves.

Not this game but certainly in that years cup run

was with the RAF in Norfolk at the time with another big blue - we were drawn away to Peterborough - neither of us could drive but another 'mate' could

we asked him to take us - from memory it was a midweek game - a round trip of about 120 miles -

'Yeah I'll take you as long as you pay for the petrol' - No problem, 'and pay my way in' - Err o.k. 'and buy me something to eat' - Fuckin Hell 'and buy me 4 cans for when we get back seeing as how i'm driving'

Needless to say we didn't make it

Memories to follow tomorrow, but in the meantime, here are the highlights. Bedlam when we scored, but we were worthy winners in the end against much more fancied opponents:

That's brilliant mate

15 at the time and remember absolutely nothing of the game except Paul (like city saab have power) scoring the free kick. Don't even remember it going to extra time. Will ask the better half (lifelong Tractor) if she remembers when home from work.

I was 11. I remember the motorway absolutely full of blues, with very heavy traffic on the way down. Everyone popping/waving etc. I distinctly remember a minibus of United fans too, and I thought they were going to our game, weirdly. It turned out they were away at Coventry I think, same day.

Wr sat in the stand, with the Holte End to our left. I remember the Ipswich side of that stand looked fuller for some reason. i also remember City fans waving en-masse to other city fans behind the opposite goal. I saw that happen at other games too back then.

My strongest memory of the game was that the entire city end appeared to turn blue with waved scarves singing “You’ll never walk alone”.
