City v Liverpool - Post Match Thread

Great find!

As well as David's perfectly weighted through balls and Kevin's long diagonal raking passes and through balls, we now have Mendy hitting a constant stream of world class crosses. Stoke showed Maureen's lot struggle when the ball goes wide and gets swung in accurately and I can see us going to town on that. Cards on the table now, my family are from Ardwick and I have been blue all my life, but my late grandmother was a scouser. Liverpool are the team I hope finishes one place below us and takes points off rivals, and on form they'll do that. After the red, Liverpool showed no fight. Strangely straightforward win.

I was bloody delighted not to see Salah emerge for the second half. He was giving the Otter a very hard time.
Either he was carrying an injury or Klopp dropped a bollock there.
As for the 10 who took the pitch in the second half I did not expect them to roll over so easily. Must be a bit worrying for you...
I know we were at home but the battering we gave the blue dippers with 10 v 11 shows what can be done with hard work and a good attitude

Away from home at spurs in the cup,3nil down and Barton sent off at half time..hard work and determination got us through.
It can be done.
Just thinking of the gambling mad mr barton,i wonder if he had money on the lilleywhites that evening..big money.and just wanted to make sure....similar to his bizarre sendings off v qpr in the title decider back in 2012.back the opposition and do your best to make it happen.
Thats why gambling and football really do not go together.
Stoke City and their current set up amaze me,...anyway,i digress..liverpool showed no heart 2nd half and klopp will have to do a bit more than hug and kiss his players in front of the kop.he needs to show some tatical acumen.
Dont hold your breath koppites.

The point of red carding that type of challenge is that it deters the more cynical deliberate use of a high boot to intimidate, which threatens the opponent with injury to make him take his eye off the ball. You can't start guessing whether or not intent is behind the action. Only the player can know that and they don't usually own up. It's not park football, they're playing for large sums of money and some will do anything to get an edge.
Agree with every word.

It was a fair post. When Saleh didn't come out for the second half I assumed Klopp had chucked in the towel, was making sure Saleh was fresh for the CL and told his team to make sure it didn't end up being 3 or 4-0.

Well I suppose that strictly they achieved that.

Completely agree. Was shocked to see Klopp sub Salah off at halftime as he and Mane were the ones who were causing us most problems prior to the red card. Once we scored the second Klopp had given up on the game.

As Carragher said after the game, in that situation you lost an attacking player, and started to play more of a 4-4-1, so there's no excuse to concede more goals. I understand they were going to be less of a threat going forward but they were abysmal defending in the second half.

They were abysmal defending, 11 v 11.

Awful as we were defensively, they were worse & were flying by the seat of their pants. Because Otta was so awful & also he, KDB & Fernandinho gave away several sloppy passes in our half early on, it gave a false impression that things were going ok for Liverpool, when in reality, they had Jesus & Aguero, constantly running into dangerous areas where sooner or later, they & the ball were going to meet & Liverpool were going to be in deep shit.

They were like kids taking selfies in a swimming pool with a shark in it.

The worrying thing is, Klopp is our one World Class part of the team, Mane and Coutinho have the potential, but he is the one we rely on and he has made a few baffling decisions this season already. The only excuse I can give is that he thought the game was gone and saved a couple for wednesday, but no Liverpool team should be that feeble, it's embarrasing. I still think under this man we will get it right eventually.

Makes you wonder if Klopp would've taken Salah off if we'd not scored that 2nd goal just before half-time. It did feel like he'd conceded the game with the substitutions but I still expected more fight from Liverpool in that 2nd half or just some damage limitation tactics. Then again, I don't think Klopp believes in parking the bus even in those situations and neither does Guardiola for that matter.
