Well according to everyone else it this!
To be honest that's the kind of thing i'd say to the Liverpool fan. 'Yes mate, we've spent billions and we've won the FA Cup, the league and now we're going to Wembley again, in fact it's like a second home to us now. Now fuck off home and settle down to a betamax video of when you were great'..........

And don't forget to say that in your glory years you bought Souness for what was then a fortune from Boro the best midfielder around and McDermott from Newcastle and Dalglish from Celtic and Alan Kennedy from Newcastle, Keegan from Scunthorpe all relative but the Scousers did not develop all their players from the Liverpool Sunday league. Whilst your there tell him this famous history of theirs only started in the sixties, before that they were fuck all, I'm sure we won a European trophy before them and I'm sure we won the league before them and the FA and League Cup. I may be wrong on some but fairly confident I'm right. History my arse

According to http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk

Since 08/09 rounded

City £413m

LFC £99m

I'm pretty sure that's net spend. In terms of outright spend, not including any mitigating money received, I make it (and it's quite approximate) City - £477.1m, Liverpool - £238.1m, ratio - very close to 2:1

Doesn't exactly massively weaken his argument, even if we may disagree with it.

As Falastur has pointed out my figures were net spend.

Our gross spend is double what theirs is over the last 5 years. However, you also have to take into account what the value of their squad was in 2008 compared to ours.

To use an analogy, if I've got a battered old car and then spend £30k to get a new BMW and someone else has a nice car and only has to spend £15k to get a similar, new BMW, I've spent more but we've got the same outcome. In the seasons before the Sheikh bought us, they massively outspent us.

So, in summary, just tell him to fuck off.

A simple Google search and a bit of cut & paste...

City...
Season 12/13
Total £54,000,000
Season 11/12
Total £76,000,000
Season 10/11
Total £154,750,000
Season 09/10
Total £125,000,000
Season 08/09
Total £127,700,000

Liverpool...
Season 12/13
Total £48,800,000
Season 11/12
Total £56,400,000
Season 10/11
Total £80,450,000
Season 09/10
Total £36,000,000
Season 08/09
Total £39,000,000

In a nutshell our spending far outweighs Liverpool, any Blue should realise that!?

This is the club that spent £35m on Andy Carroll and £20m on Henderson.

Their transfer spending is ridiculous

...but any Dipper will go on about net spend. Selling Torres etc. they seem to ignore the amount spent on the Binman Carroll...

I like how people talk like this but then beg for their club to be bought by someone like our owners.

Why don't you ask him what Liverpool's spending was in the 80s when they were bankrolled by the Moores/Pools money and we were in the 2nd divison.
