City v Southampton Post Match Thread

To be fair to Southampton, they gave us far too much respect yesterday. I think the way they setup was purely to try and stop us playing or Aguero playing really but it's good to see how dangerous we are all over the pitch. Doesn't take away though that we had to not just fight a well organized team but also a terrible ref who couldn't wait to see us down to 10 men. Great result.

Fantastic result yesterday, few teams will equal that at their place this season. Everyone played their part, the Bayern result just may have re-ignited our season, here's hoping!

Don't suppose it will ever happen but, given the way some in the media are attempting to label Sergio a 'diver', which will obviously affect future decisions, it would be refreshingly honest if Fonte came out and admitted that he fouled him. He doesn't have to admit it was in the area just that he took his legs and that Sergio did not dive, but as I said, not likely to happen is it.

He virtually admitted it at the time, by pointing to say it was outside the box.
So he knew it was a foul.

I dont remember much media coverage 0f Ross Barkley blatantly diving against West Ham last week and winning a free kick.
Is it because he is English and we all know its only those pesky foreigners that dive.

TBF, during the build up to the match, sky had a formation board up and asked Koeman his reasoning behind it. I couldn't believe it when he gave them chapter and verse of his tactical master plan to beat us which was basically stop Aguero and the rest will take care of itself. He went on to say they were making no real dispensation to their formation because it was City they were playing.

He did all our tactical work for us. Whether he was arrogantly spelling out how they were going to do us, or he was being naive I don't know, but it was strange to see. When they interviewed MP, he just gave the usual pre-match blurb I'd have expected with no tactics board in sight.

Eh? Sergio's booking has been arguably the biggest football story of the weekend. The referee has been universally ridiculed, and everyone in football now knows that Sergio doesn't dive.

It was a privilege to be there and witness that performance yesterday. Every player put in a shift, and anyone who moans about Navas should recognise the full shift he put in defensively. If we did that every week, no other team would get anywhere near us. Similarly Clichy - very inconsistent this season, but yesterday, he wouldn't have been bettered by Kolarov, or anyone else.
This is the time we kicked on from last season. Just hoping Kompany isn't out too long but MDM can deal with the extra responsibility, and if the other departments are working well, maybe we won't miss Kompany too much - at least I hope so! We need to wrap Kompany in cotton wool for a few weeks so that he's right for the business end of the season
The turn of the year saw Arsenal starting to collapse last season; Chelsea's poor spell, injuries and suspensions are yet to happen. But, they will. And, as we all know, a six point margin is nothing at this time of year.
There were many top performances, but, a final word - Milner, Lampard and MDM were great yesterday when they each came on. Again, it was a real privilege to see Lampard virtually at his best - scoring with a trademark shot, and throwing himself into the fray to block a shot later on. What a bonus he has been.
More than anything though, I'm just privileged to be a city fan, and so glad that I've lived long enough to see us being THIS good - again!
