Thought long and hard about it and I suspect he will be, but with his confidence levels at the moment, not for me. In the event of an injury to serge or Alf, Garcia on and Yaya off the remaining frontman...........

No way we'll have 4 defenders on the bench, not in a one off game, its not like we're chelsea.

Richards will be taken along for the ride and for a bit of fun and joking on the train but it's very much like the SWP situation a few years ago against Stoke. I was gutted he missed out but sentiment can't get in the way of football sense.

No, I was counting Richards, Demechelis, Clichy, and Garcia, however you look at Garcia, he's a defensive only option. Your bench has only 2 really attacking option in Navas, and Milner, we'll certainly want better options than that, so whoever starts up front, 1 of them will be on the bench. MP doesn't defend against Bayern or Barcelona, its highly unlikely he'll try it against Sunderland.

As it happens, I think you'll be right. The selection was the way I'd go, not the way I think Pellers will go.

All teams defend for long periods against those two, so no disrespect to any Sunderland fans viewing the thread - who I hope have a cracking weekend apart from the result - but this is Sunderland, in the capital one cup.

We'll attack, and we'll have more attacking options on the bench than defensive ones, anyone thinking otherwise doesn't understand MP.
