City v United Pre-season friendly in Beijing

I'd rather not thanks.
Me neither.

Last Summer only one club travelled further than City on pre-season tours Liverpool and then add on City's post-season tour of the USA and the end of season trip to UAE.

Many people speculate the impact of the travel on City's training regime. City are a football club, and a brand, but it's skewed way too far towards marketing the club, and it's a lot easier to market a successful club than also-rans which is what we have become.

Ignoring the USA post-season tour Liverpool travelled 21,743 miles, City 21,116. Twice as far as Chelsea, United and Arsenal.

I thought our clever savvy owners might learn something from last Summer. Whatever you think of Pellegrini, there's no doubt injuries have seriously disrupted our season, and this news suggests we're not serious about putting that right.

City played Arsenal in July 2012 at the Bird's nest, the weather was fine, even had a thunder storm at half time (and City won). If I recall correctly, the rags were playing in Shanghai around the same time.

The rags, Arse and red dippers will always have an advantage as red is seen as a very lucky colour in this part of the world, not a lot we can do about that (red and black away shirts please?).

There are quire a few City fans in my neck of the woods but that is mainly due to the Sun Jihai effect, I don't know how many 'local' City fans would turn up in Beijing in July, the schools don't close for summer until the end of July. I didn't spot a date in that BBC article but I think that 27th July has been mentioned before now. Considering that it takes around 1.5 hours to fly to Beijing from Dalian, around two hours or so from Shanghai, and even longer from Shenzhen & Hong Kong, I suspect that most City fans attending will be, like 2012, Manc expats from Oz, New Zealand and so on, and a a number of our travelling fans from home.

Beijing is GMT plus 8 Hours, it will be BST plus 7 in July.

Btw, if anyone that was over in 2012 is planning a return visit, the only watering hole of note now is Paddy O'Shea's. It's no longer owned by the Irish rag, he sold it to some French bloke but the place is just the same as it was four years ago (i.e. full of rags / red dippers). The Den, near the Worker's Stadium, was closed down a few months ago*, apparently the previous owners are looking for a new venue but I don't know how long before that reopens, or where. The Blue Frog (Sanlitun District) is good for Western food and Tiger beer but the place also charges Western prices. There must be other watering holes, I haven't discovered them yet but I only stay in Beijing for a couple of nights either side of my trips back to Manchester and I tend to head for places that I know.

* The Den was located in a building owned by the People's Liberation Army, they are not allowed to have commercial operations operating from their premises. Apparently the ruling was made around 17 years ago, it took that long to close the place down :)

Seeing as they bought a share in us they should ban anyone entering the ground wearing a scum shirt

That's why it will be interesting to see the fan base we have amassed. Obviously there will be more for them but that matters not. This will be a good gauge to see how our world wide appeal is coming on.
we will have announced the chinese CFG team by then, we will be very hot news in china by july. the reds are walking into a trap :)

in fact dare i say we will be using their own fame against them by elevating our own at their expense. well played city.
