This is from another poster - but it does ring true. Play with ONE striker.

Here is a stat for Pellegrini to ponder. When his side won eleven out of twelve games in a period that stretched from late November to early January, he selected just one striker in all of those matches. In part, that was forced upon him due to various injuries, but he found a formation that suited his players, one that provided a balance between defensive security and attacking flair.

David Silva was invariably positioned behind the sole forward, with Jesus Navas one side and Samir Nasri the other. Aguero was out injured, Edin Dzeko was out of form and Stevan Jovetic was out of favour, but there was a still a cutting edge and City still found a way to win games.

Another snippet for Pellegrini to consider. What was the common factor in victories at home to Liverpool, Spurs, Manchester United and Bayern Munich, and then away to Southampton and Roma? Those were City’s best performances and results of the season and, you guessed it, all were achieved with just one striker.

Will Pellers learn??

He is to soft and won't make the hard decisions even though the stats are there!

Doesn't bode Wednesday my record of seeing Leicester at home .

We were a different team back then! I'll never forget the awful midfield Keegan picked and Dickov sliding on his knees after he scored. Bastard.
This season City have made the mistakes of those teams .
So i wouldn't say yeah we will beat Leicester on Wednesday .
Remember last year we drew with Sunderland after losing to Liverpool .

Will he fuck, the one thing that it is completely lost on him is how Barca played with three up front yet still managed to overrun us in every department.. the simple answer is the dedication of the players to the team ethic, the same simple reason we were played off the park by the dippers.

Firstly, the poster has missed out the match that was truly our best performance of the season - the 4-1 win at the Stadium of Light where we played 442. Secondly, the examples are factually wrong. We played 442 in the wins over Liverpool and United. We won the Bayern game once we had switched to 442 with Aguero and Jovetic involved in the equalizer and go-ahead goals. And while we played 1 striker against Spurs, we were second best for quite a bit of that game and were very lucky that Soldado missed a penalty when the score was 2-1. And to cap it all, we lost Sunday's game when we had switched to 1 striker.

So great post to quote if you live in a fact-free world.

I wouldnt put too much emphasis on the winning run. In many of those games we were distinctly average, The performances were light years behind those when we peaked under Pellegrini, in Dec/Jan last season.

For me the exact formation, single or twin striker, is less important than getting the right mix of players on the pitch.

Another classic match to de-bunk this 451 myth is the game at Stamford Bridge last year. We played Aguero as the sole striker and he was completely isolated all game and got virtually no service. He scored a goal from a wonder strike totally created and made by him (and possibly due to the Chelsea defenders not realizing he is completely two-footed). So we neutralized Chelsea but were anemic ourselves and eventually lost to a schoolboy error. I'm sure if we had (say) played Dzeko instead of (say) Garcia, the wise owls on this forum would have been blaming the system for the loss.

I'd say both systems would work 4-3-3 in the really difficult games and a balanced 4-4-2 in other games! I think 4-3-3 is our best formation as much as people hate fernando when he plays in a 3 holding he is more disciplined enough to shield the back 4 without wondering!

Hart

zabba vinny demi clichy

Nando

Yaya diniho

silva nasri

Aguero

will be the lowest crowd in a good few years, the upper tier of the away section is now available with lots left, and the third tiers have loads left, 46 quid for Leicester city in the week, disgraceful pricing.

The people who make ticket price decisions are fucking idiots. I think they may realise on Wednesday that they have got this one completely wrong.
