City vs. Palace pre-match thread

I am not convinced by Yaya up top on his own.

Many underestimate his creativity which is arguably only second to Silva in the team and you would lose all that if he ays uo front, and his goal threat is best suited from arriving in the box or having a shot from the edge of the box in my opinion.

You would waste so much of Yaya's game with him playing up front.

We either have Silva or Nasri up top or we play Ambrose, for me I would go for latter.

Listening to Pellegrini's press conference, it sounds to me that he knows he needs to change how the team arrives to goal, but this false 9 system everyone thinks we should play is not something Pellegrini is keen on.

Match isn't sold out. £44-£48 prices for a match against relegation battlers just before Christmas.........

Poor pricing from MCFC, £25 max for this game IMO, may have swung me to go then. Think I'll wait for the Sheff Wed game and take my daughter.

Really poor from the club. We know you read this so sort it out. Knocking on fifty sheets this close to Xmas is taking the absolute piss.

I just think think that asking young Pozo to do a job he isn't best equipped to do, for 4 games on the spin is a bit unfair on the lad

Therefor, considering our lack of any real alternative options, (we're surely not gonna play two defensive midds against Palace are we?) 4-4-1-1 is defineately the way I'd go .... Yaya up top with Lampard just off him, supported with a midfield four of Milner, Nasri, Silva, & Fernandinho

I change my mind on a daily basis as to whether we should play 4-6-0, play one of the senior players as a makeshift striker or stick with Pozo (or Ambrose).

At the moment I'm thinking that someone to lead the line, occupy the Palace defenders, will probably work better for us than 4-6-0. But we shouldnt detract from our attacking midfielders creativity by making one of them play in a role for which they are not really suited. So back to Pozo (or Ambrose).

But I'll probably change my mind before ko.

We're playing at home.

When have you ever seen City lined up in a formation of 4-4-2 or 4-4-1-1? Perhaps only at Kick Off. Teams sit deep and defend against us, except one or two teams like Spurs, which means we're surrounding their penalty area. Therefore formations are largely irrelevant. It's attack v defence.

Where we will miss our forwards, is in the movement in the box, the quick feet of Aguero, and finishing ability.

There are advantages for possession based teams in playing without a striker - the once World Champions played like that for years and arguably Barcelona play like that. Messi is not a centre-forward, ad Neymar and Suarez if they play, play wide. Nasri, Silva, Navas, Lampard, Toure can all do well for us without forwards.

We'll have the usual problem of breaking down a packed defence and coping with a quick counter-attacking team.

-----------------------Hart
Zab---Demichelis----Mangala---Clichy
------------Yaya----Fernandinho
-------Navas--Milner--Silva--Nasri

with Lampard coming off the bench 70 mins in.

From some points of view (not mine) they have got the pricing just right. Maximised revenue and sold the game out (approx. 125 seats left which will go on the day). That's probably what most ticket offices are charged with doing. Setting prices to get the max revenue so you just fill the ground. "If demand is too high, then prices are too low."

Theres talk that we're sticking Milner up front. Perhaps not the worst idea as his work rate would ensure we defend from the front and get the ball back in attacking positions.
