We were not at the races today. At all.

If the referee had reffed the match as he should have, it would have been a different contest.

These two factors combined, we are lucky we didn't lose.

We're all quiet, the players go into their shell.

Accountability needs to be held with the team - they're good enough but there is a bit of belief or something missing. Happened under successive managers now.

Fact we were pretty shit let the Ref off the hook tonight night though. Maicon has to go there and there were 3 nailed on penalty shouts. Would have changed the game.

Bottom line though - not good enough

We are simply not ready for Champs league yet... we possibly need another 2 years to really become a threat in this competition...

mentally and probably 1 or 2 serious players... a player who directly runs at opponents and can guarantee continuous goals

Looks like were going to be dumped into the Europa League on a Thursday night.
Utter shite performance, the players look lost, confused and completely out of their depth.

Europa League would be a good result for us actually. A good run in the EL would our CL coefficient far more than scraping out of the groups and getting eliminated straight after... again.

Excellent point chippy_boy. Not the end of the world to finish 3rd. 4th would be a disaster, but that wont happen. We can still get through but 1st place gone now so looking at the long picture, a good run in the europa might not be to bad!!!! Hate this competition anyway. Corrupt and awful refs.

4th isn't bad either, we can concentrate on the league then. I want 1st, 3rd or 4th in that order. They can keep 2nd and Real Madrid afterwards. Why bother.

Not in the CL we're not. Have we really progressed in the 5 seasons we've been playing in it? Yes, we're getting tough groups. But the overall quality of our football isn't anywhere near good enough to win the thing. Winning the PL is one thing; let's be honest, once you get outside the top 4 or 5, there's a lot of dross in the PL. It doesn't really prepare you for the massive (sorry!) step up in quality that's needed to make decent progress in the CL. And I can't see it changing for us anytime soon. It looks at this stage like we'll probably need at least 4 points from the trip to Rome and the home game against Bayern if we are to get out of the group. Can you see us doing it?

Why 4? CL tiebreakers are head to head and not GD.

Few points to make

Should always play 3 in midfield against the best sides in Europe.

Think we were too frightened to put our foot in tonight expecting the usual petty European ref performance.

The ref was wank, allowed Roma to foul all night.

All is not lost still think we can qualify

Wrong tactics, but that's not our biggest problem.
The players look terrified in this competition, they show no fight whatsoever, there is absolutely no hunger at all.
We keep hearing "we" want the champions league, Show it then!
We've played some great teams so far in the champions league, but this team should be making more of a fight of the games, so far we haven't seen the great Manchester City team we all know and love.
So pissed off, no improvement at all in the champions league since our first game.
I'd say sort it out, but honestly I wouldn't know where to start.

Extremely poor from MP again to start with the two central midfielders....a lot on here including the roma fans said it would be a mistake and we were all right...only when he took off a striker did we ever look comfortable

people want to scapegoat individuals but the system is completely wrong against the top teams yet the manager fails to learn from it until its too late and the damage is done

we now have to go to roma and win (not impossible but highly unlikely unless MP changes his tactics) while also beating cska home and away (doeable) and maybe beat Munich as well at home (depends if they have qualified by that point or not)

For champs league games id go with this (depending on injuries

if you want to go more attacking take off milner and add jovetic or maybe take out fernandihnio and put milner in his place and stick jovetic where milner is

a 5 man midfield is a must against better teams and MP is not learning this yet.

No-one should be blaming the ref, I know we should have had a second pen however the bottom line is that their keeper has barely had a shot to save all game and they've had by far the better opportunities.
