City Women’s Team | 2025/26

Chelsea and United drew 1-1. If we beat Arsenal tomorrow we go 2nd and 4 points ahead of Arsenal
Yes - just caught the last 10 mins of it and decided to cheer on the draw as that result seemed the best (especially as Chelsea were away).
Seemed very odd seeing Jess in red.

Worst case scenario is we end up 2 points behind Rags/Arsenal.

Managed to get to watch the team training this morning. Brilliant experience to see them playing that close up. Proper fast paced, tight football - even in training. Coombs impressed me actually - she was solid with passing and I can definitely see what she brings to the squad and why she was given an extension. I was surprised they train without shin pads though. Andrée Jeglertz came over and said hi and told us they'd be out in 15 minutes, seemed a nice bloke.

Mary Fowler and Lily Murphy came out and trained separately from the team. Both looked well and in good spirits.

Missing players were Bunny, Clinton, Hemp, Kerolin.

As always, Keating was brilliant with the people watching. The first to come over and have a chat, sign autographs and take pictures. Every time we've met her she's been great - a proper credit to City.
Izzy Christiansen was coaching the first team as well - didn't realise she was so young! I hope she has a great career with City.

I just watched Japan in a friendly against Italy in Como (streamed live). Finished 1-1. City players did very well. Hasegawa was Japan’s captain, POM, and scored Japan’s equalizer. As usual, she was everywhere and doing a bit of everything as best as possible. Yamashita had a good game and saved at least 2 goals. Fujino played the entire game and put a lot of efforts, but looked a bit lost at times, particularly she played mostly in the left midfield. Shimizu played the last 10 minutes and played well with Hasegawa and Fujino when she started moving to the right towards the end of the game. Perhaps we should call Shimizu back from Liverpool to help with our current weakest line, the defense.

Yui's goal. Beutifully timed run and nice finish:

Injury news from the boss:

Clinton & Knakk trained fully for the last week and are expected to be in the squad for this weekend. Hemp & Murphy both trained a little bit but Kerolin & Fowler still doing their own stuff. Layzell has picked up an injury on international duty (England U23's) and is still under assessment.

Why did we swap Park for Clinton?

Very weird.

At the time I thought that, at best, it was United getting as good as they'd given (already wrong — we should screw them with every deal), but I'm now wondering whether they didn't in fact get the best of that deal. It's complicated — one player can fit better into a given team than another team. That may be the case with her. But given her relatively young age, we should probably have held on. Clinton must have been seen as a better fit, in the long term.
But I'm not going to lie — when I watched Jess playing, I did wonder if she wasn't too slight (in build) to impose herself physically against the burlier teams. Looks as though she can. (It's similar to the doubts I had about McAtee on the men's side).

I'd say it's also a bit early to decide that Clinton doesn't fit, given she's hardly played yet

I can see why people might be concerned by the decision to give up Park to get Clinton, but that judgement is based on the fact that Park is thriving at United whereas we havent had opportunity to see the upside yet. Clinton has had a couple of injuries and has also been used as a makeshift left winger in Hemp's absence. Not her best position.

Its no surprise to me that Park is doing well at United but I wouldn't say we're missing her either. Fujino is playing every bit as well as her on the right and LBB is much better in the deeper position supporting Yui than Park was.

Id also add the old school analysis that Park clearly wanted to go to Utd so bollox to her would be my final thought. Even if the transfer somehow hadnt gone through she'd be dead to me as a Blue at that point anyway.

I think she only accepted the United move cos we weren't playing her enough and very rarely in her best postion. If the choice had been to stay at City and get the chance to play herself into form on the right or at 10, then that would have by far been her preference.

Once City knew that the only way they could get Clinton would be by sending Park the other way, it was us that put the suggestion to her. Its nit a move she agitated for and she was class in how she spoke about us when she left.

Its an odd one as even though players crossing town usually means bad blood, this really does feel like a deal that suited both of the players and both of the clubs. Everyone ended up better off cos of it. Including Jess Park and United.
