I don't know why I am in any way surprised by the partonising, ignorant drivel on this thread. It's like a UKIP football convention.

Describing grown women as girls!

I am also familiar with the dismissive tone. It goes the same for racism. Belittling the issue is the easiest form of oppression.

Being a bit over precious about the term girls and then to introduce racism into your argument for no reason other than to over dramatise your point.
You'd have to be very radical to take exception at "girls" - do you show the same indignation at the use of the term "boys" when refering to grown men? I imagine you're the type to make a principled point of singing "the MEN in blue never give in" and shouting "come on you blue MEN".

Personally I'm more critical of "Ladies" as a patriarchal term.

Bang on the money..

Wrong.

That's not how forums work. Either tell him why he's wrong or delete the post.

I already have. Those that choose to disagree just ignore my words. That how it works.

So, as ever, I won't be bullied into agreeing to call women 'girls' or generally demeaning them. I know that most men would like the world to be like that. However, most women would not agree. That's why the team is called MCWFC. Get with the programme.

As with most things in the english language, the context is all important. I take umbridge at the blanket ban you impose on the use of 'girls' when applied to adult females. It's a term well used by women when referencing themselves. I imagine Ms Duggan herself uses it or do you imagine she shouts "come on Women" as a rallying call.
You have clearly sought to distance yourself, quite rightly, from the unpleasant posts on this thread, but don't do so by being an indignant pseudo feminist.

So, by your logic, when Boots ran a campaign (for Cosmetics) and used the strap line "here come the girls" they were demeaning their own target audience by using that phrase?

womens football is dogshit ,I would rather watch 22 pissed up sunday leaguers than any pro ladies team,

Deary fcukin me, I can only assume you have no sisters or daughters.

Pablo1, I rarely post, but feel compelled to. The attitude we have shown towards Toni Duggan has been over sensitive. You get beat - you take it on the chin. Someone tries to rub your face in it - they are the poorer for it. I am thoroughly ashamed that we have bullied her into apologising and taking the photograph down. Those of us who insist that she should have been aware of the hurt she was causing, before traducing her themselves, need to have a think about what hurtful, malicious behaviour really comprises.

That our fan base has behaved like those ridiculous PC police who pounce on any innocent behaviour because it didn't consider the feelings of the small minority of people that might possibly find a way to be offended, makes us no better than Liverpool fans.

I don't think I live in the self pity CIty, but sometimes I wonder.

What is 'Political Correctness'? When you cut through all the....errr....politics, ultimately it is about politeness. It is about referring to people in a way they would wish to be referred to, which displays both manners and consideration for others.

I don't expect Toni Duggan would wish to be referred to as a 'girl' and therefore people should desist from so doing, out of politeness, much the same as black people don't wish to be referred to in certain terms any more.

You speak for yourself not 'most of us' you certainly do not speak for me. I have been involved in the game on a variety of levels and to hear your comments in regards to womens football, I find it laughable. Some of the female players I have worked with have far exceeded male players of the same age group.

It is the 21st century now buddy. Women can play football and play it well. If you cannot accept that then there is not much I can do, but I feel for you.

as its the 21st century any chance you could drop the buddy its a bit 20th century ,

and as you say its the 21st century so i will like woman's football , thank you ,oh and I don't like lots of sports should I start liking them now its the 21st century ??
