From the Mirror, with quotes, I would guess from Marwood or Cook?

City won't shoulder the wage burden of departing misfits

Manchester City have warned any players looking to move away from Eastlands in the New Year that they will not have their wages subsidised by the cash-rich Blues.

City are willing to listen to offers for Emmanuel Adebayor, Roque Santa Cruz, Wayne Bridge, Shay Given and Shaun Wright-Phillips.

But while City’s owners are prepared to take significant losses of transfer fees that add up to a staggering £70million, they are unwilling to pay any proportion of the mega salaries that they currently earn with the Blues.

City are ready to listen to loan offers for any of the five players – and Juventus are already making moves to take Adebayor to Italy.

But the Turin club, who entertain City in the Europa League next month, have been told that they will have to pay all of the £160,000-a-week wages that the £25million striker earns at Eastlands or persuade Adebayor to take a pay-cut.

It is the same scenario with £90,000-a-week Santa Cruz, with the £18million forward wanted by both Mark Hughes’ Fulham and former club Blackburn.

A City insider said: “Any player that wishes to leave and is deemed surplus to requirements by Roberto Mancini can do so – but only if the deal is right for the club.

“There is a willingness to take a hit on transfer fees and even loan deals may be considered, but that means any interested club will either have to match the player’s wage demands or the player will have to take a cut in salary.

“There will not be a policy of the club subsidising wages. In some instances, players who want to leave because they want to play more games will have to decide whether they are willing to take a pay cut.”

City agreed to pay a large chunk of Craig Bellamy’s £90,000-a-week wages when they allowed the Welshman to join Championship promotion chasers Cardiff on a season-long loan.

But that was a one-off deal that will not be repeated when the transfer window opens.

Sounds good. I wonder if any of them will be willing to take a pay cut in order to play more often.

That City insider gets around a bit.

If true tho I don't blame them.

Or stay on high wages spreading malcontent about their lack of opportunities.

Sadly, this isn't true.

Firstly, any player who hasn't requested a transfer is entitled to 10% (more in some cases) of any transfer fee. This may be why the club are looking to loan deals, as Barcelona did with Ibrahimovic moving to Milan, for instance.

Plus, i believe contracts now include clauses which basically mean any player not requesting a transfer must have their bonusses paid in full, even if they're outstanding.

We don't know the specifics of player deals, obviously, only the club, player and agent will, but any of those leaving will be doing so with nice seven-figure packages, on top of what they might get for moving to their new clubs.

Sadly, we start any negotiations for outgoing transfers from a very weak position.

And those players being moved on also know that because of the financial fair play rules know that City cannot afford big pay off in the summer as they will appear on the bottom line - January wlll be a big pay day for some of these players

As a neutral I can see the reasoning from your end but I believe there are only 3 maybe 4 clubs that can get even close to the salaries you are paying.

Unless there is a willingness from the players to take huge reductions Or you subsidize the salaries then I feel you will be stuck with them.

We already know the only reason most of them have joined is for the money so why would they walk away from it?

It'd be interesting if they play hardball and stick to it, stay here and be excluded from the named squad so you get to keep soaking up your huge wage but no chance of a game or take a pay cut to play somewhere else, we'd see just how mercenary some of these twats are.
