It was being discussed the other day how City's back up team would do in the league and Tim Sherwood suggested they would finish top 4 so it got me thinking ....based on a first team of

EDERSON, WALKER, DIAS, STONES, ZINCHENKO, FERNANDINHO, KDB, GUNDY, BERNARDO, FODEN, MAHREZ

the back up team would be .... including players out on loan

STEFFEN
CANCELO
ANGELINO
AKE
LAPORTE
RODRI
HARRISON
FERRAN
STERLING
AGUERO
JESUS

Mendy and Doyle for Angelino and Harrison if loan players were not included.
Delap, Palmer do not make either 11 ........ DEPTH

Top 6-8 team for sure....not sure about top 4 .....

That team would struggle to get top 6.
Neither fullback can really defend, Rodri on his own in midfield, main goalscorer injury prone.
Even if you include loan players you shouldn't be able to include Harrison and Angeliño, both of whom are confirmed permanent departures.

"back up team", what the fk does it mean in Man City?

players move in and out for various reasons. it changes all season. just because some are favored at the moment doesn't necessarily relegate another persons worth to b-team, back-up, reserve status.
all of those players have started big games all season.

look at all the times the forum has gone mental when those on the preferred list had started at various times.

probably more than any other season, given injuries, covid, fixture congestion, our success this year is due to an integral collective effort from everyone of our players.
of course on the surface i understand the gist of this simple exercise but recently these terms have been bandied about often and it just seems some are treating it as be all end all and that seems disrespectful to me.
