City's Iron Curtain

Our public image needs to be managed and controlled in a better way. The negative stories are damaging and embarassing to the club and owners. There should be better communication with players to address any grievances in-house. Since we won the title there have been a series of negative stories that could have been avoided or handled better.

I think it has been more embarrassing for Yaya and his agent. IF true, they have made utter buffoons of themselves, and are a laughing stock at the moment. It is incredibly transparant, everyone knows that. I haven't spoken to a single person, a supporter of any club, who is laughing at City (other than to try and wind me up about Yaya maybe going)- they are all laughing at Yaya. And that is sad, for a footballer of his quality.

Not quite the recognition he was thinking of. This saga just reinforces the stereotype of footballers not being the sharpest
tools in the box.

Absolutely. Good post.

Agree Billy

These threads are the reason I like this forum

I cant be bothered reading 400 pages of flapping and guesswork

I'd much rather read something clear and concise and that opens my eyes to something I couldn't put my finger on myself

Yup fully agree, nothing worse than seeing chairman mouthing off on TV every time anything happens, we're much better off just rising above it all and refusing to feed the parasites. My only slight complaint is that I feel the club should start taking action against slanderous reporting or journalists who clearly are out to get us. Personally, for example, I'd let it be know nto the press that the next time someone claims we have no class because Mancini was in the stands in Hughes's final will find themselves subject to a lawsuit. Differing opinions have to be accepted, but just outright lies should not be tolerated

Billy - I genuinely do agree with what you say in your OP. But to achieve this we have to be consistent.
Without dragging up the old Mancini arguments again (which none of us want to do) you can't have certain sections of the the club
briefing against a former manager (either implicitly or explicitly) when it suits. We either do keep our own counsel on all matters
or we don't. I do feel we could have a more positive influence over our media coverage if we did take a firmer stance with a very small
number of 'journalists' but that is only my subjective opinion.
I do like the current situation where the football does the talking and we are no longer like Billy Smart's circus (until yesterday!)
But as difficult as it maybe at times consistency is vital ingredient if we really are to have an 'Iron Curtain'

I agree the story is embarassing for Yaya and his agent. Every other PL club would celebrate the departure of our most infuential player.

However there is still significant embarassment and damage to our club's reputation following our most successful season. With huge ego's sensitive management and excellent communication is required. There is an implication club/player communications have been inadequate?

My employer didn't celebrate my 31st birthday as much as I wanted them to. Can I take them to a tribunal for damage to my massive ego?

Mancini was never briefed against during his tenure at City so our stance has been and continues to be entirely consistent. In actual fact what pissed Mancini off was that the club were steadfast in their silence when all the rumours were swirling around about him potentially being sacked. Even in the lead up to the FA Cup when there was a host of speculation that we were going to appoint Pellegrini and that Mancini was to be sacked, the club made no comment.

The club went on the attack against Mancini after his performance in the press conference after the FA Cup. He knew he was going to be sacked, he knew there was a pay off coming, and yet he had that bizarre rant about Vicky Kloss and the club not protecting him enough. Kinda like Yaya's claims that the club don't respect him, and very very similar to the Yaya situation on the whole. Everything can be handled in house. Yaya and Mancini both chose/have chosen to do their talking via the media. That won't be a quality the powers that be at City find endearing.

I'm not a pro/anti Mancini person but he didn't help himself at times with the media so you can't blame them for jumping all over him when given the chance

Manuel seems to fit in a lot more with what the club as a whole are trying to portray, and i think you've summed it up with your OP
