It’s generally assumed that the cream of world football, excel in the Knockout Stages of the Champions League, which is now perceived as the benchmark for greatness.

City’s record is mediocre, and suggests that our best players aren’t necessarily at the highest level. However, there’s also some interesting disciplinary issues.

The goals columns are inflated by the 6-6 v Monaco, but with or without, we’ve tended to stagger from shapeless, damaging 45 minute spells, to freezing when it really matters.

We’ve also witnessed some impressive performances in Kiev, and at home to PSG, but otherwise, it’s all been a bit peripheral, as Silva and De Bruyne seemingly prefer.

Our 14 goals have been shared as follows: Aguero 4 Sane 2 De Bruyne 2 Silva 1 Sterling 1 Stones 1 Yaya 1. Kompany 1 Fernandinho 1

In contrast, Messi and Suarez have both scored twice in just 4 games against City.
If we’re comparing mobile full backs, then Dani Alves has also scored twice.

We’ve suffered 3 red cards (curiously, all against Barcelona), but our opponents have always finished with 11 players.
Similarly, our opponents have been awarded 4 penalties, whereas City have only been awarded 1

Mirroring his domestic record, Kompany played in the first five games, but has since only lasted for 7 minutes (home leg v Kiev), and 10 minutes (away leg v Real Madrid)

So what does it all prove?
God knows, but it’s an International Break, and I’m bored.

fair enough its the shit international break that hasn't improved quality of our international team one bit but fucked up our domestic league and piled up fixtures, must have ticked a box somewhere though !

What tis proves is in the knock out stages it is the luck of the draw and also confirms we get a rough ride of referee's. I love how a ref strikes his hands from side to side shouting "NOOOOOO" when we have a clear penalty. But yet touch foreign opposition in the penalty box and the ref has his whistle in his mouth before either player has touched the ball or gone to ground.
