Only speed the scum had last night was how quick they could get back in position to park there double decker bus

im sorry mate, but the rags were excellent, tactically spot on, they had more clear cut chances than madrid.

Yes they did the thread is about speed and intensity just pointing it out

Speed is one thing and we have very little throughout the team and there is nothing currently we can do about it. But intensity is something else and to a large degree comes from the manager and how he sets the team out to play.

There is nothing stopping us from playing the kind of game we do but with higher intensity. We need to move the ball quicker,we need better movement especially from midfield players going forward and we need to press hard and fast when we lose the ball.We do very little of this.

And last nights game was a fine example of the opportunities speed and intensity bring

I agree

Mancini's tactics are focussed on keeping possession and waiting for gaps. Whilst this often works through frustrating the opposition and forcing errors it is widely redundant against better teams, especially in Europe. Teams are quicker, well drilled and of a much greater quality than the Liverpools, Aston Villas, Fulhams of the world.

It is pivotal to have players with pace and a desire to attack in midfield, despite the fact this will inevitably result in you losing possession on occasion (fast movement + quick attacks = giving up possession from time to time). If you look at both Madrid and the rags last night they have enough speed in the team to get back in to position quickly when this happens. Barcelona, Dortmund, Bayern Munich and Chelsea are exactly the same - all have pace throughout the midfield. Our problem is that our midfield is filled with technically sound but slow players so we are restricted to patient methodical build up play as we simply do not have the speed to get back quick enough.

It is no coincidence that most of our goals conceded come from counter attacks when the likes of Yaya can not get back quickly. This was one of de Jongs main strengths - he was quick enough to get back and win possession.

I am convinced that a player such as Ramires would improve us tenfold. Quick, positionally sound and enough quality going forward to support attacks.

Not enough pace in our midfield to succeed in Europe. It has been a problem for a few years. The only matches where we really played at tempo were second half at home to Real Madrid and the second half away to Porto. We can compete in the Premiership but our squad is a long way short for the higher levels of the CL...perhaps as many as five players. We are miles away from Dortmund and Bayern...let alone Barca.

I KNOW Bobby Manc has been in the game for ages, I KNOW he's an international who has played at the highest level and I also KNOW that he and his coaches and his team of scouts know best.

BUT FFS its obvious to the whole bloody world that our team is slow and we can't penetrate when teams park the bus. Actually we can't penetrate when teams don't park the bus now, a la Southampton.

We badly need a Young/Valencia type of option. Sinclair is a Championship player. AJ was too slow. We need two pacy wingers. I think Bobby now knows this given the amount of times he plays Kolarov and Maicon from the bench. They're not the answer, but they're all we've got at the moment. If we can get two such players in in the summer, watch Dzeko piss the league with all his goals.

We dont do that as we have a manager who hates wingers nothing else is more clear.

If we attack with width that has to come from fullbacks/wingbacks. Thasts why he tried to tinker with 352, but the players werent understand that tactic properly as we looked clueless more often than not with that tactics many player complained they dont know where to go, where to stay, where to run.

Big problem is that our overall play is so slow that if maybe fulbbacks join attacks they are to beat at least one man and many times two...
Our fullbacks not as skilled to make it happen.

Clichy is very fast but if he attacks no one is staying back to make it sure we dont get countered on left side. Instead of it Clichy stays back many times even when he could attack and we are suffering in the middle with slow backpassing, sideway passes...

Tactically Mancini is a joke this year, surely he would be better with some other players, but this is really going one way:
get Falcao, CR, DDR and a few other world class players to help out Mancini tactically.

If it is the big project of Mansour, then go ahead get those players, we will need them under Mancini especially in CL group stages. (Not mentioning CL knock out stages if we ever get there with Mancini.)

-- Thu Feb 14, 2013 12:14 pm --

Sinclair is not Championship player.

He is not top4 material surely, but could be easily playing for years in any side like Sunderland, WBA and as he showed in Swansea too.
Hardly Championship level teams.

And if he would be Championship level, and Mancini still signed him and spoke to him weeks before transfer than then the blame lies at Mancini again.

this, i love gareth barry, but he is far to slow for the fast pace of CL football, when him and garcia played against dortmund it was horrible to watch, we need to be more mobile, and sharper,

leagues pretty much gone now.

i'd give sinclair a chance on the right and play aguero deeper to give us some pace.

if we get it right i know we can be the best in the league, sadly it's probably too late this season for the league but not for the FA cup!

But other than the FA Cup this weekend, he probably wont :(

Feel sorry for the lad, hes not half bad.
